Job Title:

Mechanical Supervisor (CNC – Working Manager)

Reports To:

Russ Van Zile, Production Manager About the Job We’re seeking a Mechanical Supervisor who will lead from the front—operating CNC machines daily while building the mechanical function’s foundation for future growth. This working supervisor role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic manufacturing environment, has strong instincts around fabrication and workflow efficiency, and knows how to build clarity and momentum within a small, cross-trained team. Who You Are You’re a hands-on leader with deep roots in CNC machining and mechanical production. You don’t just know how to run a router or mill—you know how to build structure, guide teammates, and keep the floor moving. You’ve led by example in the past, whether formally as a supervisor or informally as the person others turn to when things get stuck. You understand how to balance doing the work with improving how the work gets done. You take initiative, keep things organized, and communicate clearly—especially under pressure. You’re ready to step into a leadership role on day one and take full ownership of the mechanical function in a high-mix, low-volume environment. What You’ll Be Doing Run CNC equipment: Operate Haas mills, CNC routers, and laser engravers with minimal supervision.

Follow the workflow:

Execute internal work orders (IWOs) to priority lists and complete required documentation.

Import and adjust programs:

Prep CAM files in Fusion 360; adjust feeds, speeds, or toolpaths to resolve issues and optimize cutting.

Mount and align tools:

Set up workpieces, fixtures, and tools using hand tools and precision instruments.

Inspect your work:

Use calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools to verify dimensional accuracy.

Manage changeovers:

Prep upcoming jobs and swap tooling or stock efficiently while machines are active.

Monitor machine health:

Track performance and coordinate preventive maintenance or repair service as needed.

Maintain cleanliness:

Follow daily cleaning routines and shop safety practices to keep equipment and workspaces in shape.

Organize and track inventory:

Monitor tooling and material levels; coordinate replenishment before shortages impact work.

Lead by example:

Uphold high standards of safety, organization, and precision on the shop floor.

Mentor and support:

Provide guidance and hands-on training to mechanical team members across Case Prep, Component Install, and other areas.

Act as lead:

Step into a floor leadership role during the Production Manager’s absence (vacation, PTO, etc.).

Drive process improvement:

Identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies and implement solutions in coordination with Production and Quality.

Help scale the team:

Contribute to hiring decisions and onboarding of future CNC/machinist staff as business needs evolve.

Qualifications and Education Requirements Education:

High School diploma or equivalent, vocational or technical school training preferred.

Experience:

3+ years operating CNC equipment (routers, mills, lasers, etc.) in a production environment, including 1+ year engraving laser operation experience.

Skills:

Proven ability to interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and CAM files. Hands-on familiarity with Fusion (or equivalent CAM platform) Strong mechanical aptitude and experience in fabrication/millwork Prior experience supervising or mentoring others in a shop environment Preferred Skills & Qualifications CNC Machinist or Fabricator certification Familiarity with G-code (understanding of existing programs; no need to write from scratch) Prior team leadership experience (formal or informal) Comfort with high-mix/low-volume production workflows Comfort adapting to shifting production priorities Familiarity with CorelDraw and large-format printers (Mimaki) Experience maintaining proper documents to ISO Certification standards (SOP’s, Maintenance logs, training records, etc.) Physical Requirements May involve prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise and temperature variations.
