Permanent Assistant Superintendent – Paper Area Your Job Georgia-Pacific is currently seeking a Paper Area Assistant Superintendent for our Paper Machine Department in the Monticello, MS Paper Mill. The successful candidate will be a self-driven individual with a passion for excellence in Safety, Environmental Stewardship, customer quality and building a high-performance team. Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, providing leadership with accountability for all hourly employees on the shift, safety, and environmental compliance; customer service, coaching, training, and development of operations personnel in safety, quality, production, problem solving, technical and interpersonal communication skills; addressing key issues and concern; and interacting with employees from other departments to ensure success of operational goals. Our Team Georgia-Pacific Monticello is a fully integrated containerboard mill that employs 450 employees and continues to benefit from extensive capital investment. Monticello, Mississippi, is an hour South of Jackson, MS, and an hour Northwest of Hattiesburg, MS. What You Will Do
- Drive a culture of safety and environmental excellence through critical hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation
- Collaborate directly with operators, shift leaders and maintenance to meet the business objectives of the department
- Lead teams in the identification, development and implementation of safety, quality and/or cost reduction initiatives that add the highest value to the operation and drive continuous improvement
- Develop strategic plan for paper machine in all aspects including safety, quality, cost reduction, and improved productivity
- Implements disciplined manufacturing into department through systems
- Integral team member of the paper machine outage planning and responsible for the safe execution of routine and annual machine outages
- Understand, communicates, and align goals around quality, production, safety, and reliability
- Drive process and equipment modifications that result in improved product quality, reduced variation, and higher customer satisfaction
- Utilize effective communication (written and verbal), organizational, and planning skills
- Effectively communicate needs of the department with crew, peers, and senior mill management
- Employ strong people skills (i.e., coaching, mentoring, counseling, directing, delegating, advising, collaborating, and influencing) for the hourly team members on your machine, as well as the manufacturing engineers that support the team Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Leadership experience with paper machine operations
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- Experience managing in a labor union environmen.
