Operations Manager Job Duties Operations Manager’s use their management skills, knowledge, experience and equipment to manage shop crews to perform tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, managing, staffing management, quality management and managing fabrication of both structural and miscellaneous steel for commercial and industrial buildings. Duties include managing, scheduling shop crews to perform fabrication tasks such as processing, fitting, welding cleaning, painting, and shipping. The safe performance of these duties are both jobs related and consistent with business necessity for our company. This position is classified as safety critical. The work can be strenuous and is sometimes done in adverse weather conditions. Work involves climbing, bending squatting, sitting, standing, and heavy lifting. Work may be in a noisy environment due to working with or around air-operated tools, heavy lifting machinery, compressors and welding machines. Among the hand tools required are wrenches, grinders, metal working and welding equipment, overhead cranes, bull pins, wire cutters, pouches and safety harnesses and lanyards. The Operations Manager’s primary role is to manage the shop crew in the fabrication operations.

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge Required:

Ability to manage crews that range from a size of 3 to as large as 35 depending on shop / project size & scope Ability to plan and assign work to crews and follow up on safety, quality and productivity of the crew Ability to interface with corporate safety regarding company & project safety goals / requirements Ability to interface with company project management regarding project timelines & goals Ability to read and understand project fabrication drawings, specifications, erection methods and dimensions Ability to use measuring equipment Ability to work with and calibrate fabrication equipment including welding equipment, tapes and squares Must be proficient in stick and MIG welding knowledge for at least 4G and AWS qualified for visual inspections Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and / or

ASNT NDT

Level 2 credentials is a plus but not required. Ability to train other shop crew members on proper safety and quality requirements & craft technique and skills Ability and training on the operation of overhead cranes and forklift equipment Knowledge and ability for fabrication including cutting, welding, rigging and hoisting for the fabrication of structural and miscellaneous steel Ability to review completed drawings and work for errors, non-conformance and troubleshooting issues identified . Ability to perform in process inspections and final inspections of fabricated products and complete necessary inspection reports and documentation Meet with management personnel regarding schedule and review details. Maintain safety / quality standards for installed work including ASME and AISC as applicable Must be able to understand and follow Company American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Code of Standard Practice and procedures Understand and comply with the company safety & quality management system

Essential Functions:

Substance Abuse Test – All applicants must successfully pass a substance abuse (company administered test.) Attendance. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company and performance of the worker’s duties. Transportation. Workers must have transportation to get to / from work location and projects. Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record. Training and Certification. Workers must complete all necessary training and certification required by OSHA, the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the company. Physical stamina. Workers must have high endurance because they spend many hours on their feet while lifting heavy steel components. They must have the ability to climb vertical ladders, bend, lift & carry equipment and materials and maintain balance. Workers must be able to use hazardous equipment including drills, grinders, welders, overhead cranes and rigging and hand tools safely. Workers must possess the knowledge and mental ability to safely operate mobile equipment including forklifts, aerial lifts and scissors lifts. Physical strength. Workers must be strong enough to move heavy materials components into place. Many are up to 100 lbs. in weight. Proper Clothing and Personal Protective Equipment. Employees must wear proper clothing for construction including jeans or work pants, long sleeve shirt, or short sleeve shirt with at least 4-inch sleeve, work boots / safety shoes in accordance with project requirements, safety glasses and any other company required safety equipment. Safety. Workers must comply with all OSHA, Company safety requirements and training.
