Description
Weyerhaeuser in Millport, AL is a newly upgraded, full dimension lumber mill boasting the latest, state-of-the-art technology to deliver world-class results safely and reliably in a fast-paced environment every day. We are currently recruiting for a conscientious, detail oriented Value Technician to join our Night Shift Quality/Value Team in ensuring all expectations for quality, optimization, and continuous improvement are met in Millport Lumber’s sawmill department.

Key Functions
Role model a strong commitment to working safely and contributing to a strong safety culture
Ensure specifications for high value products are met and manage overall lumber quality
Understand life cycle of the lumber manufacturing process from incoming raw materials through the end point customer
Understand and apply knowledge of value systems and grading
Monitor optimization systems and verify conformance to standards
Monitor performance of grading/optimization equipment and make adjustments as needed (i.e. clean, calibrate/align, and troubleshoot issues)
Assists in identifying and correcting issues that impact lumber quality
Understand operational roles and support/assist the production team as needed
Work and effectively communicate with outside agencies and vendors during inspections and audits
Respond to quality issues and provides immediate feedback
Troubleshoot and research important information to determine root cause of quality issues
Partners proactively and effectively with other team members and departments to mitigate or resolve quality and production issues
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures
3 years experience in a lumber manufacturing facility preferred
Willing and able to work independently with little supervision and make decisions based on data and statistical information
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office proficiency)
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Able to perform basic mathematical functions
Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge
Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment and manage through occasionally high stress situations
Quality control experience and general knowledge of optimization/data systems preferred
Resume detailing education and work history required for consideration
Must be flexible with work schedule and able to work any shift, weekends, overtime, holidays as needed
Able to perform all essentials functions in an industrial environment, which may include lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing steps, working from heights, standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours or more, working in extreme temperatures, dust, and noise while wearing all safety equipment
Successful completion of assessment process, background check and post-offer pre-employment drug screen and physical
