The Charge Scenic Artist & Production Assistant (CSA/PA) is an exempt position, which reports to and works in tandem with the Technical Director (TD) and Production Manager (PM). The CSA/PA is responsible for the safe and effective realization of the set designer’s paint renderings and elevations for all productions. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Read and interpret design drawings, scenic renderings and paint elevations Budget and purchase scenic paint materials for each production • Produce paint samples and color match as needed Operate HVLP sprayers and other power tools as required Read production calendar, rehearsal and show reports and follow-up timely on applicable details/notes with supervisors and appropriate staff members Follow shop regulations, policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure safe operation of tools and equipment Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition Maintain an orderly and properly stored paint area Execute scenic sculpting and other special scenic projects as assigned Work in accordance with safety best practices Attend production meetings, tech rehearsals and other meetings as assigned Assist with load-in, assembly, and strike for all productions and events Assist in all areas of production as needed and assigned Complete any other responsibilities and tasks, as assigned and necessary
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or related occupational field OR 3+ years professional experience in theatrical scenic artistry Working knowledge of best practices in theatrical scenic art, design and technology Highly skilled in theatrical painting techniques Ability to read and understand theatrical shop drawings, design plans and elevations • Exceptional eye for detail, fit, and finish Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Ability to engage in positive, productive, and collaborative communications with team members, executive staff, patrons, vendors, and other stakeholders Flexible schedule for evening and weekend work calls, special events, rehearsals, etc. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license Ability to drive a 16-foot box truck preferred Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Salary:
