Chief Operator City of Bartow – 3.2 Bartow, FL Job Details Full-time $31.33 – $48.56 an hour 2 days ago Qualifications Supervising experience 1 year Senior level Full Job Description JOB This is skilled, technical, and supervisory work in operating and maintaining the City’s Water Treatment Plant. An employee in this position has direct responsibility for plant operation and personnel on all working shifts. Considerable independent judgement regarding testing, process control, effective use of equipment, and staff training required. Accurate assessments and highly technical decisions involving treatment plant processes, equipment utilization and repairs, personnel safety, and public health must be made. Operation requires 24-hour coverage. Work is performed under general administrative supervision and reviewed by periodic inspection and plant performance
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Supervises all operations personnel and oversees plant operations for assigned treatment plant.
- Maintain records and prepare clear and concise reports, some of which may be required for local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
- Determines operational status of equipment and request and coordinates necessary electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation repairs.
- Collects samples from plant processes and records data collected in operators’ logs.
- Performs mathematical calculations as required. Calibrates continuously recording devices and chemical feed equipment.
- Inspects routine aspects of plant safety programs.
- Works in confined spaces or hazardous areas.
- Lifts medium to heavy objects and climbs ladders and stairs.
- May be required to work overtime, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
- Assists in monitoring SCADA systems
- Inspects water plants sites for compliance with regulations.
- Responsible for seeing that all the requirements of the facility’s State of Florida permits are adhered to in the day-to-day operation of the water treatment plant during their assigned shift(s).
- Performs related work as required.
- Position is designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.

The job risks exposure to chemical, biological, electrical, and mechanical hazards. The employee will be required to work in noise, heights, bright/dim light, and adverse weather conditions. Frequent exposure to the general hazards of the industrial working environment and construction sites are also possible.
