This position is part of our Kids Cafe kitchen team that prepares and packs up to 5,000 meals a day for our after-school and summertime program for low-income children. This is a full-time position that will work 34+ hours per week. Approximate schedule is Mon-Fri 6AM-2:30PM. Some flexibility is required based on workload. Successful candidates must be able to communicate in a professional manner and have good customer service skills, as this role will interact with volunteers every day. Pre-employment drug testing and criminal background checks are required.
Key Responsibilities:
Support for
Kitchen Operations:
Help sort and pack meals for delivery to different feeding sites. Count and package produce for delivery to different feeding sites. Assist with unloading food deliveries and storing items in proper locations. Ensure storage areas are clean, organized, and free of any hazards. Help kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling vegetables, when required. Compliance with
Health & Safety:
Adhere to all food safety regulations and internal health and safety policies. Report any maintenance issues or health hazards to the supervisor. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
Excellent attendance and reliable transportation. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods. Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
Preferred:
ServSafe food handling certification. Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen or similar environment. Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
Work Environment:
This position involves working in a fast-paced, physically demanding kitchen environment. The porter will often be on their feet for long periods and work in hot, humid, or cold conditions depending on the kitchen area.
