Job Description
Summary Reporting to the President, the Director of Quality is responsible for planning and directing quality activities in support of the company’s quality assurance operations. More specifically, the Director of Quality is responsible for developing and executing the company’s process control and quality management systems to meet customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of the Quality Assurance department Implement quality system to ensure customer requirements are met Create, implement, evaluate and adjust company’s quality policies, standards, procedures and strategic plans Determine, review and approve supplier’s performance as per required specifications Develop and maintain QA standards relating to processes and products Maintain systems to measure performance against established standards Ensure QA team and employees use quality tools to improve the company’s accuracy, efficiency and profitability Implement approved sampling, reporting and data analysis as required Participate in customer and supplier meetings Supervise, communicate with and provide direction to QA Managers and Quality Engineers on quality issues on a regular basis Manage the QMS system and develop reporting procedures Recruit personnel and oversee development and maintenance of staff competencies in required areas in addition to selection, evaluation, progressive discipline and remuneration of staff Manage Quality related communications across all departments Contribute to awareness of corporate direction, mission, aims and activities Contribute to formulation of policy and strategy as a member of the senior management team Oversee internal audits Oversee corrective and preventive action initiatives Participate in proposal processes Responsible for continuous improvement in the Quality Department including knowledge, capabilities and efficiencies Allocate personal as well as quality department time as needed for mission accomplishment
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of quality business practices and business development Knowledge of government procurement and contracting process Knowledge of manufacturing principles and business practices including knowledge of
ISO 9001
2008 and AS9100C Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts Knowledge of related manufacturing technology including explosive processing and testing Knowledge of military and aerospace specifications Experience in product management, including product development and new product introductions Experience in developing and managing budgets, hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel Experience writing proposals Strong computer skills in MS Office, Calibration and Statistical Process Control environments Excellent multi-tasking, analytical and decision making skills with the ability to troubleshoot, identify root cause and systematically solve problems Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and leadership skills Strong English communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to facilitate meetings, conduct training and to present information in an advisory capacity Ability to travel as required by the position Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously Capable of working in a team environment both as a team member and as a team leader Flexible and willing to accept new challenges
Training Requirements/Performance Standards:
Full understanding of the company’s products, services, mission, goals and strategic business plan Compliance with regulatory regimes under which the company operates Committed to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams Adapts to change in business trends Knowledge and compliance of workplace health and safety standards Minimum certifications as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) through American Society for Quality (ASQ) se while improving the operating effectiveness of the site and leading an organization of over 80 people. Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each) 50%•Direct and lead technical team: Analyze, evaluate and determine appropriate solutions for manufacturing technical problems encountered in the application of manufacturing methods, facilities and processes. Apply engineering procedures, provide technical direction, create and apply work instructions and tooling for the factory floor. Participate in program and site corrective action boards and be a key member in customer escape and non-conformance investigations; develop direct cause, root cause and mistake proof corrective actions, as well as separation criteria when required. Ensure proper deployment of resources to achieve cost effective results in support of site and business unit deliverables. 15%•Administrative management: Ensure a safe work environment and remain in compliance to federal and local regulations. Develop long range technical and administrative plans, goals and strategies. 15%•Customer interface: Establish priorities to meet the needs of the customer and the organization with a dedication to support the manufacturing shop floor. Represent the organization as a prime internal and customer contact on manufacturing technical operations. 20%•
Strategy and Continuous Improvement:
Lead the sites Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) program. Drive operational excellence throughout the organization and create a metrics driven, highly accountable mindset within the organization. Requirements Requirements Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline Demonstrated supervisory skills, including the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and control activities of the assigned organization.
Additional Requirements:
Solid understanding of business development, program management, finance, operations and process control. Must be equally comfortable walking the plant floor as interacting with customers and executives. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively deliver and reinforce consistent messages at all levels. Leadership acumen and credibility to work across the entire organization and develop talent. Demonstrated experience in a collaborative environment/role and able to create balance between program business unit leaders and functional organizations to achieve site objectives. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Program management experience, Engineering leadership and experience with inert, energetic and propellant materials. Experience in either aerospace and or general industrial sectors with 10 years in a leadership capacity.
