SUMMARY OF POSITION
: The Director of Quality Assurance will lead and manage quality programs for fresh berries, vegetables, and fresh-cut produce. This role demands a data-driven approach, with a focus on monitoring KPIs, managing suppliers both domestically and internationally, and ensuring compliance with customer expectations and regulatory standards. The Director will oversee the development and execution of continuous improvement initiatives and robust quality management systems, ensuring that all products consistently meet or exceed internal standards. This position will report to the President of the Company.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Quality Systems & Program Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) for all product categories (berries, vegetables, fresh cut).
- Create and update product specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Oversee shelf-life testing and validate product performance throughout distribution and retail environments.
- Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality deviations and customer complaints. 2. Data Analysis & KPI Management
- Develop and maintain quality metrics and KPIs across all product categories.
- Analyze quality performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Generate regular reports and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on data insights. 3. Supplier & Grower Oversight
- Conduct domestic and international supplier, grower, and co-packer visits to assess and monitor quality practices and product compliance.
- Partner with Procurement and Operations to onboard new suppliers and maintain strong relationships with current ones.
- Collaborate with growers and suppliers to implement quality improvement programs. 4. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quality Managers, Coordinators, and Technicians across multiple locations.
- Establish clear goals, training programs, and professional development plans for the quality team.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Chemist or related discipline preferred. Valid Driver’s License. Produce Post harvest certificate. USDA grading standards training
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum of 5-8 years of quality leadership experience in fresh produce or perishable food manufacturing. Bilingual in English & Spanish is necessary. Proven experience in data analysis, KPI development, and process improvement. Experience with domestic and international supplier management. Strong understanding of fresh produce shelf life, post-harvest physiology, and fresh-cut processing. Excellent team building skills to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives with focus on results-oriented leadership. Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 35%) Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel (advanced), Power BI or similar data visualization tools. No recruiters.
