Job Description

The Quality Control (QC) Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the respective department which may include testing of raw, in-process, and packaging materials, final lens inspection, environmental monitoring, bioburden testing, lens inspection certification, instrument/method qualification and MDLIMS involved in the production of contact lenses. Participates in the departmental hiring process and performance evaluations. Supports career development, mentoring, and coaching of departmental employees.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provides work direction and supervision for direct reports to ensure testing, projects, investigations, etc. are completed on time and accurately to ensure lab/site goals/targets are met .
  • Leads/supports continuous improvement initiatives related to compliance/quality requirements, introduction of new products/processes, technical requirements, and efficiency (Lean, Lab Excellence, etc.) of the laboratory.
  • Manages departmental inventories (i.e. equipment, standards, chemicals, etc.).
  • Routinely provides metrics reporting data for various compliance forums and internal/external customers.
  • Ensures department safety requirements are met, including proper storage of chemicals/standards, equipment/facility is in good repair (with regard to safety requirements), employee concerns are addressed, and awareness of hazards is communicated and follow through.
  • Oversees departmental training not only for self but also for existing employees and new hires.

This includes generation/review/approval of training plans per position, hands-on new hire training for new/existing employees, monitoring of the training database for departmental compliance, development of new training modules as identified, and retraining as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+1 yr)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 5 Years of Relevant Experience
  • 3 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
