Job Description

The Quality Supervisor will be responsible for helping to drive the Quality of the plant’s steel packaging products, training and supervising hourly Quality team members, and ensuring Customer Quality Compliance. What you’ll be doing: Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required. Supports and follows the FSSC guidelines of the food safety system. Leads by developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuous ongoing improvement of the food safety system. Follows company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco’s Global Code of Conduct. Drives department FSSC and Quality Management Systems (QMS) compliance through: Gauge calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) Plans and leading the HACCP team Document review and revision Verification and validation of control plans Facilitates and collaborates with production supervisors to understand root causes of production defects and holds Supports plant material and process changes by providing specialized data and analysis, capability studies, trend analysis, charting techniques, testing, and facilitating discussions. Acts in an advisory capacity by informing production and quality assurance management of significant process deviations. Uses judgment in determining the significance of process deviations, initiates action to prevent production or shipment of substandard products, isolates defective products, and executes sampling plans to determine fitness for use. Maintains reports as necessary, evaluating the quality of designated products, in conformance with established quality assurance procedures. Reviews and analyzes process and product Statistical Process Control (SPC) data trends and alarms Manages customer complaints and implements corrective actions. Manages supplier complaints and supports customer complaints. Utilizes the Eight Disciplines Problem Solving Process (8D) to address issues and communicate with customers about the status and resolution of their complaints. Performs Gage R&R and capability studies Leads and assists with risk assessment and reduction utilizing tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Performs customer data analysis and Certificate of Analysis (COAs) Performs process and product quality assurance audits Maintain Data collection system/SPC projects Interfaces with customers and suppliers as necessary Conducts annual quality training for plant employees. Leads QMS and quality training for assigned quality and production departments. Other duties as assigned. This position is located in our Presidents Island, TN facility. We’d love to hear from you if: Proficient in implementing 5S principles for efficient workplace organization and process optimization. Working knowledge of FMEAs, Control Plans, SPC, problem solving and quality systems and engineering. Ability to effectively instruct and train other employees. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to communicate effectively, write effectively, read, comprehend, and follow complicated verbal and written instruction. Visually detect and assess defects and/or defective products. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and data entry. HACCP certification required. Working knowledge of the following software: Datametrics Database, Agile database, L2L application Competent in Minitab with ability to run statistical tools Trained in Applied Vision System defects Utilize A3, DMAIC and other problem solving tools and techniques
