Responsibilities
As a Construction Materials Testing Field Technician, you will be responsible for conducting on-site testing of concrete, soils, and other construction materials. You will utilize a company-provided vehicle to travel to various job sites within the area. We offer comprehensive on-the-job training, as well as the possibility of obtaining future certifications in construction materials testing.

Ensure that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer’s policy, and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle
Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures
Travel to various job sites in a company-provided vehicle to perform sampling and testing on construction materials, such as concrete, soils and asphalt
Return samples to the office for testing
Report data in an accurate, complete, timely, and understandable fashion in accordance with applicable testing procedures
Operating testing equipment; ensure that all test equipment used is functioning properly and maintained as required by the company and/or manufacturer’s policy and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle
Operate a motor vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, check fluid levels, inside/outside upkeep)
Communicate with dispatching and/or field supervisor, advising of current job status and locations as required; cellular phones are to be worn at all times, and calls are to be returned immediately
Regular attendance is required; technicians must arrive on time for scheduled jobs
Prepare testing reports using Field Data Collection (FDC) software; ability to write and retrieve emails using Microsoft Outlook
Must be willing to travel within the state of Alabama, if applicable
Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
Turn in required paperwork daily
Regular attendance is required
Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs; overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs
Follow all company safety procedures and policies
Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or coursework in construction, engineering, geology, or a related field is a plus.
Must be physically able to meet the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, kneeling, crawling, balancing, and using hands to handle tools and controls.
Comfortable working in various outdoor weather conditions.
A flexible work schedule is required — early mornings, weekends, overtime, and occasional overnight travel may be needed based on project demands.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and willingness to drive to job sites frequently.
ACI Level I Concrete Testing Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment (we’ll support you through it!).
Nuclear safety training will be provided at the earliest available opportunity.
Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and company policies.
Attention to detail is key — accurate data collection, testing, and documentation are essential to success in this role.
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals).
Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical documents, blueprints, safety manuals, and field reports.
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Prior field-based experience and/or certifications (e.g., ACI Level I) are a bonus, but not required — we’ll help you get there!
