Quality Technical Specialist 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 15190 Monticello Rd, Hazlehurst, MS 39083 Quality Technical Specialist (Traveling) Bell Lumber & Pole is seeking a Quality Technical Specialist to support the quality of our operational functions across our Southern locations. This is a hands-on role focused on ensuring that utility poles and production processes meet strict industry standards and company expectations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, availability for moderate travel, and a passion for maintaining high-quality standards.

This is one position that will support 4+ sites in our Southern region
Key Responsibilities Inspections and Testing:
Conduct production yard audits and stock apply inspections. Monitor pole inventory, perform physical re-assays, and document findings. Retest poles inspected by QC Technicians for accuracy and compliance.
Training and Mentoring:
Train and mentor QC Technicians and production staff on inspection techniques, grading, and customer-specific testing. Provide onboarding and refresher quality training as needed.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate inspection records and databases. Manage treating certificate documentation and ensure calibration of critical equipment.
Continuous Improvement and Root Cause Analysis:
Participate in root cause investigations for quality issues and propose corrective actions. Support continuous improvement initiatives through audits and best-practice training.
Customer Interaction:
Collaborate with customers to address and resolve quality concerns professionally.
Compliance and Specification Management:
Ensure inspections and processes meet safety, regulatory, and company standards. Assist the Quality Manager with reviewing and maintaining industry specification kits.
Travel:
Travel regularly to Bell locations and customer sites as needed. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required; plus relevant Quality Control experience. Quality Control experience in the wood pole and/or lumber industry strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn Microsoft Access. Solid understanding of utility pole specifications, standards, and inspection procedures. Strong math skills and familiarity with both U.S. customary and metric measurement systems. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain a high level of detail and accuracy. Skills and Competencies Strong technical knowledge of utility pole materials and quality assurance processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to recommend practical solutions. Ability to train, mentor, and support staff development. Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. Professional judgment with the ability to work independently after training. Creative and innovative thinking for process improvement initiatives. Work Environment Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and occasional sitting and tool handling. Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Regular exposure to outdoor elements (heat, rain, wind) and production yard noise. Light exposure to treating chemicals and solutions . Moderate to heavy travel required to Bell and customer sites. May occasionally work outside of normal and customary work hours.
