Job Summary:

The Paint Quality Inspector Engineer is responsible to ensure compliance with Airbus Helicopters Inc. policies, procedures and Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and/or European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations as applicable. This role administers the ongoing development of the AHI Quality Management System and performs initial, final, and eyes of the customer paint inspections. You will work closely with the paint team technicians and quality engineers on a daily basis ensuring quality standard from start to finish. In this role you will advise on best practices to improve overall quality and efficiency on the paint process. This area of expertise is the focal point when a customer encounters their aircraft for the first time. We must strive to ensure first impressions meet expectations and align with Airbus Quality standards. In this role you will be part of a larger objective of offering our customers a helicopter that is best suited to their operational needs.

Primary Responsibilities:
Quality Management System Support:

40%

  • Analyze non-conformities and initiate appropriate corrective actions to avoid recurrence.
  • Define and improve the Quality processes within AHI by identifying Cost of Non-Quality drivers and improving processes in order to reduce defects.
  • Generate Key Performance Indicator reports using SAP and other related tools to measure Quality performance and communicate to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrate creativity, propose and implement innovations using lean methodologies, data analytics and mining techniques to ensure that top company objectives (TCOs) are met.
  • Review, develop, and analyze dashboards and visual management tools to identify deficiencies in the quality system.
  • Compile and analyze statistical data for non-conformities, key performance indicators and other quality department metrics to identify trends, problem areas and give feedback to implement appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve the quality management system.
  • Interact with various collaborators to establish feedback monitoring, identify trends and highlight opportunities to improve the quality management system.
  • Create, review and update company manuals, policies, procedures and forms to improve and streamline company processes.
Inspection:

30%

  • Perform inspections during surface preparation, at initial paint, final paint, and eyes of the customer inspections.
  • Ensure work meets quality standards based on technical data.
  • Detect any hidden damage during paint inspections that could occur when rotating parts through pain booth and racks.
  • Verify paint schemes are accurate to approved customer design specifications.
  • Physically and systematically quarantine non-conforming components and assemblies identified during inspections.
  • Supervise the use of Measuring and Test Equipment to ensure it is well maintained and current relative to its calibration cycle.
  • Perform stock inspections/purges when advised of possible non-conforming/suspected unapproved material.
  • Record all observed discrepancies found during paint inspections and collaborate with paint supervisor for corrective actions to mitigate further discrepancies.
  • Maintain disciplined detail when observing aircraft-marking schemes of registration/lettering.
  • Ensure proper methods are followed when handling all hazardous material, including shelf-life monitoring, safe storage, hazmat disposal, and personal protective equipment per OSHA, ISO, and company stand rds.
  • Act as a mentor to the paint department and provide guidance, as needed.
Documentation and Quality Metrics:

  • Ensure proper tagging, identification and airworthiness of parts released to Airframe, Engines, and Accessories
  • Compare quantity, part number, and serial number of items received with procurement data, purchase orders and other specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Create NCM’s for non-conforming material detected and coordinate with Quality Engineers on non-conformity resolution
  • Ensure all materials have required documentation (i.e. 8130-3, EASA Form, Certificate of Conformance)
  • Properly identify and document items in quality quarantine cage
  • Document and prepare all accomplished paint inspections and work orders performed.
  • Maintain Quality Metrics including, but not limited to, Cost of Non-Quality.
  • Identify, examine and report quality key performance indicators (KPI) utilizing SAP, Tableau and other related tools to measure quality performance.
  • Complete trend analysis and develop corrective action plans for Quality Metrics.
  • Responsible for managing all First Time Right Metrics related to paint and working with relevant stakeholders on improvement projects

Education:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in aviation / manufacturing / business related field or equivalent experience.

  • 5 years of paint quality inspection in the automotive or aerospace sectorPreferred
