CMT – Construction Materials Technician Job Description We are seeking both entry-level and experienced Construction Materials Technicians to assist with material inspections. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and safety of construction materials through thorough testing and observation. Responsibilities Review specifications for civil and structural plans and identify sections applicable to the scope of work. Perform tests and observations according to project requirements. Submit daily field reports to document testing and field observations. Document and communicate non-conforming items to designated project supervision. Clean, maintain, and calibrate all assigned equipment according to applicable codes and standards. Learn to transport, operate, and care for a nuclear density gauge as assigned, meeting all safety, care, and maintenance guidelines as outlined in the Radiation Safety Program Policy. Essential Skills Experience in materials testing, construction materials testing, soil testing, concrete inspection, and concrete testing. Proficiency in soil sampling, use of nuclear density gauge, and conducting inspections. Strong skills in testing, analysis, report writing, quality control, and quality assurance. Familiarity with soils, concrete, masonry, ACI, ICC, NICET, NCDOT, and construction inspection. Additional Skills & Qualifications Degree preferred but not required. Experience in construction or engineering, preferably in the field rather than the office. ACI, ICC, NCDOT, or NICET certifications preferred. Strong writing skills, particularly in report writing. Ability to create and maintain accurate and confidential test records. Proficiency in using computers and common software applications. Ability to learn company-specific software and programs. Effective communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. Professional demeanor in dress, speech, and conduct. Ability to handle stressful situations, multiple priorities, and hectic schedules calmly and courteously. Commitment to working ethically, honestly, and safely at all times. Ability to drive a company vehicle and adhere to all company guidelines for operation and safety. Work Environment The role involves working both in the office and in the field. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and professional standards while interacting with a variety of team members and stakeholders.
