The position is responsible for conducting USP microbiological methods, instrumental analysis, and maintaining documentation in compliance with cGMP regulations. This role requires strong aseptic technique, laboratory bench skills, and familiarity with analytical instrumentation and method validation. Qualification Requirements Perform microbiological testing per USP and , including plating, enumeration, and culture maintenance Conduct batch testing procedures including pH, viscosity (R-meter), FTIR, and other physical/chemical evaluations Apply aseptic technique in all microbiological and sample preparation activities Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and logs following GDP requirements Perform Instrument calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance as scheduled Follow and assist in the development of SOPs and method validation protocols Safely handle laboratory chemicals and reagents according to standard safety procedures Support R D formulation trials and pilot batches by preparing test samples and documenting observations Collaborate with QA and R D personnel to troubleshoot test results and support ongoing projects Ensure compliance with GMP, safety policies, and regulatory requirements Minimum Qualifications Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific discipline preferred 1-3 years of hands-on laboratory experience in a regulated manufacturing or R D setting Proficiency with microbiological techniques, aseptic technique, and microbial enumeration Experience using FTIR, pH meters, viscometers, and related laboratory instruments Knowledge of USP methods, cGMP guidelines, and quality documentation practices Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently Excellent written and verbal communication skills Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In-depth knowledge of product chemistry Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and formulation tracking systems Familiarity with lab instrumentation (pH meter, viscometer, balances, etc.) Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to troubleshoot formulation and process-related issues Supervisory Responsibilities 1-2 Lab Technicians Essential Functions Formulate new products and reformulate existing products to meet customer needs Oversee laboratory testing, including stability, viscosity, pH, and performance evaluations Support production scale-up and troubleshoot manufacturing issues as needed Evaluate raw materials and alternative sources for performance and cost Maintain accurate records, batch sheets, and documentation in compliance with SOPs Support quality investigations and corrective/preventive actions Assist with preservation strategy and microbial challenge testing Provide technical support to customer service and sales as needed Collaborate with Quality and Operations on product release and improvement Train and guide lab or quality staff as required Physical Demands Must be able to stand for extended periods Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally Manual dexterity required to handle lab equipment and samples Visual acuity required for color matching and detailed measurement Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in lab settings Work Environment Laboratory and manufacturing environment Exposure to chemicals including surfactants, solvents, and preservatives May require wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, goggles, and lab coat Moderate noise level Occasional exposure to strong odors from raw materials or formulations
