Job:

TheNICU Quality & Safety Nurse will lead patient safety and quality ofcare efforts while striving to create and maintain a culture ofsafety within the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Utilizing theprinciples of process improvement and change management, the NICUQuality & Safety Nurse will partner with department leaders tofacilitate the implementation of evidence-based and regulatorystandards of nursing and clinical practice, leading various largeand small-scale quality improvement and health system projects withend-to-end ownership.

What Youll Do:
  • Facilitate and organize theNICU team to ensure the highest level of care is delivered topatients and families within the NICU.
  • Responsible for supportingthe department and the organization in attainment of goalsincluding improvement of quality outcomes for all patients,creation of efficient systems of care, and delivering anexceptional patient experience.
  • Continuously improve quality bymonitoring Policy Manager and ensuring content is up to date.
  • Serve as patient safety clinical consultant to committees. Providedata analysis, trending and review of events or indicators, tosupport monitoring and improving patient safety and care whenapplicable.
  • Support clinical workgroups and quality improvementteams utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Provide support to staffand serve as an internal resource for questions related to patientsafety and quality.
  • Conduct investigations and root causeanalyses and develop corrective action plans to improve the overallquality and safety of patient care. Collaborate with riskmanagement to determine reporting requirements to regulatoryagencies.
  • Track occurrences and other indicators appropriately inEZ-Track. Complete these tasks in a timely manner.
  • Provideclinical guidance to data analysts.
  • Maintain up to date knowledgeof regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Work closely with theanalytic team to prepare and present reports to the appropriatework teams and committees.
  • Serve as an innovative leader, rolemodel, researcher, and change agent.
  • Serve as a subject matterexpert on the regulatory, risk management, process improvement andpatient safety requirements related to clinical nursing care asprocesses are improved or changed.
  • Support Culture of Safetyinitiatives.
  • Facilitate team building and problem solving whenidentifies changes are needed.
Who You Are:
  • Graduate of anaccredited school of nursing with a BSN required. MSN or Mastersdegree in Healthcare or closely related field required within two(2) years of hire.
  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse inthe State of New Hampshire required. Certified Professional inHealthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in PatientSafety (CPPS) preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinicalexperience as an RN is required, with a special emphasis on NewbornIntensive Care nursing preferred. An additional two (2) years ofexperience in risk/or quality management and performanceimprovement activities preferred.
  • Current knowledge of regulatorystandards related to patient safety, regulatory survey, DNV andprocess improvement techniques.
  • Project management skillsrequired.
  • Ability to communicate with staff at all levels andfacilitate multi-disciplinary project teams; Ability to workindependently and take initiative; Ability to search for, interpretand utilize evidence; Ability to model skilled communication, truecollaboration, effective decision making, meaningful recognition,and authentic leadership, as described in Establishing andSustaining Healthy Work Environments, ACCN, 2005.
