Training and Educational Assistance Programs

Primary Function:
  • Perform all types of inspection requirements and is responsible for final inspection for all characteristics of a wide variety of very complex inspection operations.
  • Works from complicated drawings and specifications.
Tools and Equipment:

Use of Calibrated equipment, measuring tools, blueprints, linear measuring instruments, fixed gages, surface plate equipment.

Materials:

Metal castings hardware, wax patterns.

None Working Procedure:

The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor:

  • Must follow all safety requirements of job as outlined on the job safety card.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • A Mechanical Inspector C will be given the opportunity and is expected to train for and earn Mechanical Inspector B status.
  • Complete all paperwork associated with the job. Correctly maintain all forms and instruction sheets
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment
  • Inform your supervisor about problems that occur
  • Setup casting to reflect drawing requirements, process operations performed on the casting, and arrive at correct measurement in shortest time possible.
  • Inspect all manner of pattern castings using fixtures and gages; within measuring limits of drawing.
  • Adjust and set according to inspection requirements, all measuring devices.
  • Plans inspection procedures and devices using measuring and gaging setups.
  • Interpret drawing and specification of products to determine if castings are conformant.
  • Maintain all necessary records and reports for parts and products inspected in compliance with all requirements of Hitchiner, government, and customer quality control requirements.
  • Assist all training of lower classified inspectors.
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste by collecting and transferring the waste into proper containers at satellite storage areas or storage areas and assuring that the containers are properly inspected, labeled, and closed as required.

Must follow correct instruction for handling hazardous waste and report any deviations to supervisor immediately. Must attend yearly instruction in hazardous waste handling and review of current procedures if job duties could affect non-compliance. Special Skills and/or

Experience:

Must have 1 year experience as Machine Operator C. Must be able to read blueprints.
Vision requirement of 20/20 or better in at least one eye, per the J1 standard as well as color perception. Must be able to perform all duties of all inspectors of a lower classification.
Must be proficient in basic blueprint reading.
Must be capable of cross training to learn and meet all of the requirements of Mechanical Inspector B.
Requires sufficient strength and physical dexterity to frequently lift up to 35 lbs.

A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required.
