Job Description Purpose of Position:
This class of positions encompasses the scopes of practice of clinical laboratory technologists and, where appropriate, cytotechnologists and histotechnologists, in accordance with Article 165 of the New York State Education Law and Title 10 of the New York State Public Health Law. Additionally, performs clinical laboratory work that varies in degree of difficulty and/or supervises a major program initiative or activity. All personnel perform related work, as appropriate to area(s) of assignment and licensure.
Under the direct supervision of the Administrator of Laboratory Services, provides on-site operational oversight of laboratories by exercising oversight of primary scientific and technical responsibility across laboratory services ensuring the delivery of patient-centered, cost-effective, quality care, and a culture of safety across the continuum of care. Assumes the responsibilities of Administrator of Laboratory Services in their absence.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Provides oversight for departmental activities and manages and directly supervises all technical and service activities of the laboratory. 2. Collaborates with Administrator of Laboratory Services to advance the Laboratory’s programs and initiatives and set the department’s objectives and operational and financial performance goals. 3. Interacts with regulatory bodies and ensures compliance with inspection outcomes. 4. Develops uniform internal policies, procedures, and standardized testing methodologies by evaluating workflow, new instrumentation and staffing to make recommendations and changes regarding processes. 5. Directs and coordinates interface between new and existing hospital information systems and laboratory instrumentation. 6. Establishes staffing allocations, assignments and work schedules within laboratory disciplines (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Pathology, Accessioning, Phlebotomy, Blood Bank, and Serology). 7. Collaborates with the Quality Manager of Laboratory Services and/or Administrator of Laboratory Services regarding ongoing quality, compliance, performance improvements initiatives to ensure delivery of quality, patient-centered care and results. Minimum Qualifications 1. A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in biological or chemical sciences, clinical/medical laboratory sciences/technology, hospital administration, health care planning, business administration or an approved related program, and four (4) years of progressively responsible laboratory or blood bank quality, laboratory research, or laboratory testing experience; or
2. A Bachelor’s degree in one of the disciplines listed in “1” above, and six (6) years of experience, as described in “1” above. How To Apply If you wish to apply for this position,
