Position:
The Quality Control Microbiology Media Prep Technician (QCMPT) reports to Quality Control (QC)
Management Roles and Responsibilities:
The QCMPT will prepare culture media and reagents in accordance with manufacturer’s directions and in-house SOPs. The QCMPT will conduct daily calibrations and performance checks of laboratory equipment including but not limited to, pH meters, pumps, and analytical balances. The QCMPT will operate and maintain laboratory equipment including but not limited to pH meters, hotplates, mixers, autoclaves, and balances. The QCMPT will conduct entry-level laboratory functions including but not limited to pH of prepared media, growth promotion, and control plates for routine testing. The QCMPT will properly operate laboratory equipment to sterilize, dispense, pump, and measure media/solutions. The QCMPT will keep the QC Microbiology Laboratories supplied with clean glassware. (S)he will be proficient in the operation of the automated glassware dishwasher and laboratory autoclave. The QCMPT will be responsible for decontaminating materials and waste. (S)he will be responsible for proper disposal of waste. The QCMPT will safely operate an autoclave to sterilize media, reagents and supplies. The QCMPT will be responsible for the general organization, cleanliness, and upkeep of the QC Microbiology Laboratories. The QCMPT will perform LIMS functions as appropriate including but not limited to sample entry, sample receipt, and data entry. The QCMPT will be responsible for the ordering and inventory of office supplies, lab supplies, media, and reagents in the QC Microbiology Laboratories. The QCMPT will ensure uninterrupted supply of media to meet laboratory needs. The QCMPT is responsible for maintaining accurate laboratory records in accordance with cGMP/GLP standards. The QCMPT will provide input for the improvement or revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as appropriate. The QCMPT will be responsible for the labeling and organization of all QC files, including the packing of documents for warehouse or off-site storage. (S)he will also assist QC personnel and the QC Microbiology Supervisor with additional filing, scanning, or other clerical duties as needed. The QCMPT will maintain a safe working environment by following all laboratory safety guidelines and wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate. The QCMPT will manage all microbiological samples for retention, in-house testing, and disposition to contract laboratories for additional testing. (S) he will also prepare samples for both in-house and outside analyses and deliver samples to the Shipping Department as appropriate for shipment to contract laboratories. Perform other assigned duties as may be required in meeting company objectives. Communicate effectively with other departments within the organization and function within a team environment. Regular attendance is required.
Minimum Requirements:
Prior lab experience in a cGMP setting preferred (dietary supplement or pharmaceutical environment). Should have experience, training, education or any combination of it related to cleaning equipment or/and environment in dietary supplement, pharmaceutical or food industry. Ability to use basic cleaning devices and ability to learn advanced cleaning equipment. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all staff levels. Critical thinking skills to learn Nutramax procedures and predict whether proposed changes will be effective. Must be able to work independently and within team environment, according to specific, written and verbal instructions, presented by supervisor or designee. Attention to detail and some process analytical skills necessary. Regularly required to stand and bend. Must be able to use hands and arms to lift and reach. Ability to climb up and down stairs. Ability to stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours. Ability to lift, pull and push a minimum of 50 pounds Ability to use both arms to push, pull or lift. Ability to bend and squat. Good mathematical skills. Comfortable handling potentially dangerous substances such as chemical, biohazard or pathogenic organisms.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential are required for the QCMPT position.
