Your Role:

Hands-On, Impactful, and Fast-Paced As a Transportation Technician in Columbia, South Carolina, you will collaborate with fellow technicians to conduct essential inspections and materials testing on various infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, greenways, airports, ports, and rail systems.

What You’ll Do:
Inspection & Monitoring:

Assist in observing contractor operations-such as grading, paving, and bridge work-to verify alignment with approved plans and permit requirements.

Recordkeeping:

Prepare materials documentation, update daily field reports, and maintain accurate records to support payment processing.

Field & Lab Work:

Perform sampling and testing of construction materials, confirm layout and elevation using surveying tools, and complete required computations.

Regulatory Adherence:

Conduct DBE and EEO assessments and evaluate erosion control systems to ensure compliance with environmental standards.

Team Coordination:

Collaborate with contractors and senior team members to maintain clear communication and promote smooth project execution. Technicians work in both indoor and outdoor settings, facing various weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, construction site hazards, and heavy machinery. Extended hours, weekends, and holiday work may be required.

What We’re Looking For:

One (1) of the following: High school diploma/GED and 0-2 years of highway-related construction or inspection experience 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology At least one(1) active industry certification, a plus: American Concrete Institute (ACI) : Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician International Code Council (ICC) : Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure What to
