Construction Materials Technician Job Description We are seeking an entry-level Construction Materials Technician to join our dynamic team. This role involves testing concrete for slump, density, and moisture in the lab. You will receive comprehensive training in-house by our experienced employees. The position requires effective communication with various stakeholders including project managers, engineering technicians, and representatives from clients and contractors. You will transport material samples to the laboratory, document findings, and maintain equipment and work areas. This role offers a progressive increase in responsibility and training opportunities. Responsibilities Test concrete for slump, density, and moisture in the lab. Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, and client and contractor representatives regarding project requirements and testing results. Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas. Assist with scheduling and dispatch of Technicians to project sites. Adhere to strict safety standards. Provide clear documentation of findings and results. Take on progressively increased roles of training and responsibility in work assignments. Essential Skills Strong communication skills. Strong computer skills for logging daily field reports and sending emails. Experience in construction materials testing is a plus. Knowledge of ACI standards, concrete testing, and inspection. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certifications such as ACI level are a plus. Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in civil engineering, geology, geoscience, or related fields. Work Environment The work environment involves typical working hours from Monday to Sunday, with shifts ranging from 8 to 12 hours per day. During summer, expect to work more hours than in winter. There is no guaranteed 40-hour workweek due to industry nature, but overtime is available after 40 hours. The company offers hands-on training for entry-level civil/geotech/environmental roles and covers certification costs. The firm is employee-owned with profit-sharing opportunities.
