Job Description
Quality Control Measurement Tech Steel Warehouse of Tennessee 4740 Hungerford Road, Memphis, TN 38118 This position is NOT climate controlled. The work environment will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
Summary/Objective:
The Quality Control Measurement Technician is primarily responsible for precisely measuring processed steel parts. This position will also be a material handler when not conducting measurement and quality control functions.
Essential Functions:
The list of duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. Training will be provided for all required functions. A desire to learn and develop new skills as a valued member of the team.
- Pay attention to detail and follow work and/or specification instructions.
- Logs all samples with identification information. Collects additional information as necessary such as Order Nbr., Part Nbr., Heat Nbr., and Coil Nbr.
- Completion and tracking of all material testing (MITR)
- Conducts sample preparation for material/product testing in accordance to internal/industry/customer specific requirements.
- Conducts metallographic preparation for microscopic/macroscopic examination.
- Conducts sample preparation for tensile testing and also conducts the tensile test.
- Conducts sample preparation for base metal chemistry, analyses and conducts the test.
- Conducts sample preparation for salt fog testing and assists with monitoring of testing.
- Performs special investigations under the guidance of the Manager of Technical Services.
- Compares test results against applicable standard(s).
- Continuous improvement projects as assigned by the Manager of Technical Services.
- Performs Rockwell testing on product/raw material.
- Monitors test results and determines if results are feasible or if test errors or product misapplication occurred.
- Filing and record keeping for the Metallurgical Laboratory.
- Monitors lab supplies needed for sample preparation, testing, and metallography.
- Assist with weld or material quality issues related to manufacturing.
- Maintains list for tensile testing plugs and issue requests for additional plugs if required
- General Metallurgical Laboratory housekeeping.
- Records all testing, analysis, preparation performed and test /analysis results on Metallurgical Job Sheets.
- Provide technical service and support to all departments as needed.
- Prioritizes testing needs as necessary.
Requirements:
- The ability to pay attention to detail and following work and/or specification instructions
- Experience with office computer software required, including demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite software packages such as: Outlook, Word, and Excel

Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, handle samples and reach with hands and arms.
The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
