A Brief Overview Blue Seal Engineer operates and maintains high pressure boilers and mechanical equipment. Repairs, inspects, and performs preventive maintenance on boiler room equipment, systems, and related devices. A Black Seal high pressure in charge license will be considered with the understanding that a Blue Seal will be obtained within six months. Union shop Local 68 operating engineers What you will do Tests boilers water samples as required and adds proper chemical treatment to water as need is indicated in tests Operates and maintains boilers, observes various meters, gauges and control equipment and takes appropriate action for safe and efficient operation Performs periodic inspections of boiler room to ensure proper operation of heating, cooling, ventilation and utility equipment Cleans and prepares all boilers for the annual inspection Maintain boiler plant operations in accordance with local and State fire and safety codes Performs a variety of preventative maintenance tasks on all boiler room equipment including but not limited to: boiler work, HVAC equipment maintenance, etc as assigned Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety and quality assurance standards Read gauges, meters, and documents observations to track boiler operations. Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels. Activate valves to change the amount of water, air, and fuel in boilers. Inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently. Check safety devices routinely. Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activity. Strive to make good use of time and seek out work that requires completion Complete work left from the previous shift and assist others as requested Assist in the orientation and skill development of new staff members as required Supports the overall maintenance of the interior/exterior of the work environment which may include changing bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets etc., plumbing of toilets and sinks, repairs holes in walls, painting, changing ceiling tiles and moving furniture. Education Qualifications High School Diploma required or High School Diploma Equivalent experience required Experience Qualifications 1-3 years three years prior mechanical and boiler operating experience required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective oral and written communication skills Strong ability to read and understand technical manuals/detailed work instructions Strong ability to interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings and schematics Skill in exercising initiative, judgement, problem solving, decision-making Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to communicate clearly Licenses and Certifications Requires a valid New Jersey Blue Seal Engineer License as a High-Pressure Steam Boiler Operator upon hire required At Holy Name, we believe in rewarding every team member with more than a paycheck—we invest in your future and well-being.
