Job DescriptionEfficiently operate and maintain the VAR Furnace(s) and associated pre-melt and post melt equipment to meet productivity and quality targets. Interpret and respond to the needs of the equipment. Perform skilled maintenance, set-up and troubleshooting functions as requiredFollow standard manufacturing and operating procedures. Strong learning aptitude required-75% of the knowledge required must be learned on the jobPerform pre-operative checks prior to and during pump down cycle. Use pre-pump and start up checklistSet up and operate the equipment furnace(s) as directed for melting to include:

Inspecting and preparing electrodes for meltingWelding stubs on to electrodesClean, paint and maintain crucibles and base platesLoading electrodesOperating the stub welderOperating vacuum systemsOperating furnace controls and instrumentationMelting ingotsCooling, unloading, identifying and weighing ingotsDrilling ingots (sampling)Chamfering ingotsBand saw cut stubs and electrodesMust be able to interpret video monitors, gauges, meters, etc. while operating the VAR furnace(s) and stub welderMaintain operating records and logsMaintain material and maintenance needed listsPerform leak-up rate tests to determine vacuum integrityClean out furnaces and crucibles during maintenance cycles and replace damaged components.

Operate leak detectorsEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma/GED or equivalent is required; Trade school or additional training preferred.3 years working experience in a relevant environment preferred.

Forklift, crane-operating experience highly preferred.

Must be able to wear a respirator.
