Stamping Lead Position Summary:
The primary function of this position is to fully support the stamping department. Maintain all stamping tooling in a ready state condition. Troubleshoot issues relating to the production of stamped parts and train with stamping toolmaker on how to build to print, new stamping tooling, jigs, fixtures and gauges. Document changes to production tooling.
Responsibilities:
(include the following. Other duties may be assigned.) Understand and fully supports NHI team Initiatives. Inspects tooling for damage or wear after production. Maintain production tools and dies. Work with Stamping Lead and tool design for recommended repairs to tooling. Troubleshoots problems during production on all press lines. Maintain complete and accurate records on tooling as required. Maintain progressive tooling, including forming, drawing, coining and compound dies. Able to operate general tool room equipment such as manual milling, lathes, drills, grinding machines. Assist with training new operators, setting up of all stamping presses and operates any press as needed. Effectively listening and communicating with all team members. Works under the direction of senior tool makers. Skills & Abilities Understands Controls and Instrumentation, Equipment Maintenance, Manufacturing Experience, Mechanical Inspection Tools, Tooling, Safety Management, Problem Solving, Documentation Skills. Proficient with a variety of machine tools, including, lathes, mills, grinders, etc. Proficient with the use of both metric and standard measurement systems. Proficient in the use of precision gauging. Experience working with progressive dies (tight tolerances) in a precision metal forming/stamping plant. Experience trouble shooting progressive die production issues. Follow and enforce all safety policies and procedures. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to apply mechanical aptitude to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must be proficient in reading blueprints, using measurement tools (mics, calipers, dial indications, functional gauges), and standard tool room equipment/machinery (lathe, mill, surface grinder, drill press, etc.) as well as experience working with a variety of steels (hot and cold rolled, high strength, stainless, coated, etc.) Physical Demands 80% Standing, and walking 20% Stooping, Kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing Must be able to lift heavy loads (50 lbs) Education & Experience High School degree required. Associates degree in Machine Tool Technology (machine tool curriculum) preferred with a minimum 3 years experience in a production-manufacturing environment and or served a Tool and Die Apprenticeship or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
