Job Description

Primary Function:
- Perform a variety of assignments and activities to build new and or repair semi-complex dies. Make repairs, adjust, maintain, and make replacement parts for a variety of existing tooling, dies, jigs, spare parts, fixtures, in support or within the manufacturing processes, etc.

Work Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- Journeyman status / skill level is required through accredited Tool and Die Maker / apprenticeship program and or the equivalence of trades on-the job training leading to the mastery of the tool and die maker occupational field skill-sets.

Primary Duties:
- Build and maintain semi-complex dies, fixtures, etc.
as stated in the Primary Function information.
Set up and operate computer numerically controlled machines, manually controlled machines (lathes, milling, grinding, jig grinders, etc.); power tools (die grinders, rotary tools, etc.); and hand tools (files, honing stones, etc.) using the correct speeds, feeds and skill sets required to obtain the expected results.
Requires use and ability to read and interpret complex drawings, blueprints, sketches, and dimensional information.
Use a variety of precision measurement equipment (micrometers, calipers, comparator, etc.) to evaluate in process and completed work against dimensional print requirements. As required, test and adjust for functionality of tools, jigs, fixtures, existing dies, gauges, machine repair parts, test machines and special equipment. Repair and maintain existing tooling, dies, jigs, fixtures, etc.
Disassemble and assemble dies, machinery, etc., to repair and or replace worn or broken components.
Assist in the building and maintenance of complex dies, fixtures, etc., under the direction of the Tool and Die Maker — A and Tool Room Supervisor.
Advise Machinist in the making and assembling die parts.
Test and make minor corrections to CNC programs as required.
Set up and operate CNC equipment and all other Tool Room equipment.
Use advanced shop mathematics and various handbooks, charts, tables, reference materials and specifications to determine dimensions, threads, tapers, speeds, feeds, etc., in the performance of required activities.
Heat treat, anneal, and temper metals in heat-treating furnaces as required / directed.
Perform inspection of purchased dies, punches, etc., when assigned.
Assist in the training of apprentices and others as directed by the tool room supervisor. Keep machines, equipment, and work area clean and orderly for operational and work force safety benefits.
Keep any production and or quality records.
Employee is responsible for operational productivity, continuous improvement / suggestions, and involvement.
Employee is responsible for product, function, quality, and job safety. This requires the employee to maintain a full working knowledge of the performance, quality and safety requirements of the function being performed.
The employee is to support job related operational training needs regarding existing and or new manufacturing practices / processes / technologies.
Perform any other duties related in nature that may be assigned by the supervisor.
