On-site Position Summary:
Working under an experienced Toolmaker, the Assistant Toolmaker supports the design, build, and maintenance of tools, dies, and fixtures.
Measures of success:
Successfully fabricate parts from verbal instructions or prints supplied by engineers
Safely operate production equipment in Tool Room, utilizing correct feeds and speeds
Meet production deadlines
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Under supervision, assists in designing and fabricating precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures based on engineering drawings and specifications. Performs set up and operation of basic machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, bridgeports, cut-off and hand saws, and electrical discharge machining (EDM) equipment under the guidance of experienced toolmakers. Learns to inspect and test completed tools and dies to ensure they meet specifications and tolerances. Helps maintain and repair tools and dies to ensure production quality and efficiency. Collaborates with engineers and production staff to troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues. Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used. Adheres to all safety protocols and procedure
Qualifications Required:
Graduate of a vocational or related technical program
Experience in manufacturing and machining a plus
Basic knowledge of operating machine tools
Basic math skills, including working knowledge of geometry
Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings and blueprints
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Ability to perform work requiring constant alertness or activity, including standing
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Work Environment This position works in both an office environment using computers and technology and a production floor environment where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Verbal and auditory capability are required. Safety gear is required in production areas. This position reports into the site every day. This position has no direct reports.
