Job Statement
The Water Systems Technician Operator I is a technical and skilled position performing working on installation, modification, operation, maintenance, and repair of machinery to include electrical and mechanical drives and maintenance structures of the distribution system. Water Systems Technician Operators have responsibility for the groundwater plants to include operations, inspections and monitoring ground water levels and quality to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Essential Duties
Performs all duties and responsibilities necessary to maintain regulatory compliance with all ADEM, EPA, or other applicable regulatory body policies, laws, etc.
Assists in the responsibility of Lincoln-Dallas Water Treatment Plant for the delivery of adequate, safe, and quality potable water and takes immediate action if compromised. This requires working independently during after hours, weekends, and holidays.
Monitors and adjusts parameters as needed based on the laboratory analysis of raw and finished water and guidance from a certified operator for proper drinking water treatment.
Reviews accuracy of all written and electronic log entries, records, and reports and ensures all entries have been correctly recorded at the close of the shift.
Assists in monitoring the telemetry and SCADA systems using the information to control the reservoir valves, wells, and booster pumps to distribute finished water throughout the system
Conducts maintenance on Lincoln/Dallas WTP and in the distribution system addressing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
Coordinates and communicates daily with water treatment operations to conduct installation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment on process related equipment.
Maintains up-to-date service records on all equipment and plant maintenance records for regulatory compliance.
Assists in the assessment of wear and condition on electrical and mechanical equipment.
Additional Duties
Performing electrical work to include diagnostics and repairs at booster stations, tanks, wells, and groundwater plants. Installing complete electrical system (4-20 mA, 120v-480v) synchronization control circuits, VFD’s, MC, telemetry, and SCADA equipment.
Install and rebuild all categories of horizontal, vertical, diaphragm, end suction pumps, and chemical pumps.
Program and calibrate VFD’s, telemetry (flow meters, pressure transmitter, thermal monitoring, turbidimeters, and chemical analyzers), SCADA, and PLC. Perform regular inspections of water tanks. Ability to climb unimpeded vertical 220 feet carrying up to 25 lbs. of items or equipment for inspection and maintenance issues.
Coordinates with plant operators when a booster, reservoir or the water system is interrupted.
Performs flushing and disinfection on new lines, transports and handles bulk hazardous chemicals in a safe manner
Assists with the construction of booster stations.
Performs additional duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Education/Training/Certifications:
High school graduate or GED equivalent required. Must successfully pass the Grade II Water Treatment Exam within one (1) year of hire date AND Grade III or higher Water Treatment Operator Certification within two (2) years of hire date. Must obtain CDL A with Hazmat within one (1) year of hire date. Employment subject for review if deadlines not met.
Experience/Skills:
Three (3) years of experience in electrical or mechanical work required. A general knowledge of control circuits, ability to operate a full range of pumps, chemical feeders, motors, controllers, and process equipment/instrumentation. Knowledgeable of construction practices pertaining but not limited to roofs, framing, and large form concrete work. Must have basic computer skills.
Equipment:
Truck, heavy equipment, computers, radio, power tools, volt and amp meters, welder, and other electronic equipment. Must be familiar with small and large cranes for removing and installing equipment.
