Job Details:
The overall responsibility of the Wastewater Operator is to follow all procedures and guidelines to ensure that the effluent permit limits are met as required by the NPDES Permit. The job duties are subject to change based on operations and are not limited to the following descriptions.
Schedule:
12 hour shifts 3and ½ days on 3 and ½ days off Operations Overview Operate and maintain all equipment and processes associated with physical/chemical and biological treatment of wastewater. Maintain a clean, neat and orderly working environment. Notify maintenance personnel/wastewater manager in the case of equipment failure or operational deviations. Assist in the maintenance and grounds keeping of the wastewater facility as needed. Operation Tasks Make adjustments to treatment processes to maintain the established process control parameters and document changes made to the following systems: Conduct chemical feed draw-downs to confirm set dosage rates and make feed rate adjustments if required Check dissolved oxygen levels and make adjustments as required to maintained proper D.O. levels in the treatment system and to ensure efficient operation of blowers and/or aerators Ensure proper operation of effluent UVR system (not applicable to Albertville Pretreatment System). Conduct process control sampling and perform established process control laboratory analysis. Follow all established safety procedures and perform all work in a safe manner. Clean the treatment facility buildings, out buildings, and equipment to maintain an orderly and safe work environment. Adhere to Tyson Policy in achievement of goals and certifications. Candidate Requirements Operator Candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent Operator Candidate must have or be able to get a basic understanding of biological wastewater systems, activated sludge systems, and pretreatment systems. Operator Candidate is required to pursue and achieve Wastewater Certification through a third-party such as Affiliated Boards of Certification (ABC) as outlined by the Tyson Wastewater Operator Compensation Policy, unless not required by the State in which he operates. Operator Candidate must possess a valid State Driver’s License. Operator must be capable of operating Powered Industrial Trucks, i.e. forklifts, pallet jacks, etc. Safety Wastewater operation requires a serious respect and knowledge of the safety policies and standards implemented to protect the Wastewater Operator. The Operator Candidate must be fully cleared to operate among common hazards such as: Entering Confined Spaces requiring the medical approval for use of Air Purifying Respirators (APRs) Climbing and descending stairs carrying 50 lbs Potential for hydraulic engulfment/ drowning Operation of powered-industrial trucks Working at heights above 20 ft.
Rehiring Criteria:
Applicant must not have worked for Tyson more than a total of 3 times prior. Applicants must also have completed at least 180 days since their last employment with Tyson. 3-Month Operator Experience listed on the application (can be a combination of employers as long as the experience is at least 3 months)
