Water Plant Operator Position Available In Wilcox, Alabama

Job Description
- Will operate a series of controls and valves to control rate of flow of water to be treated coming into water plant. Raw water is pumped from Alabama River
- Operate chemical feed metering pumps to add correct amount of chemicals to treat river water to ADEM (Alabama Department of Environmental Management) specifications
- Change out chemical containers as needed. Help maintain inventory
- Perform water quality tests at regular intervals to maintain water quality standards. Monitor gauges for changes. Adjust incoming water rate and chemical feed rates as needed to maintain water quality
- Record test values on proper forms. Be able to use computer to record proper data
- Perform plant cleaning duties such as sweep, mop, dust and otherwise keep clean and neat the control lab room and pipe gallery. Perform light maintenance such as check oil levels, lubricate equipment inside plant as needed.

REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 year of age and have at least a High School Diploma or GED; college a plus
- Valid Alabama Driver’s License and good driving record
- Must pass physical exam and pre-employment drug test. Random drug and alcohol tests will be required, if hired. A background check will also be conducted
- This is shift work, up to 7 days/nights a week after certification. While in training, employee will work at least 40 hours a week, as determined by Chief Operator. Work performance will be evaluated weekly. Termination can result from poor work performance reports submitted by Chief Operator. Employee will work with supervision while on probation
- 12-month probationary period, during which time employee shall attend and complete classes and pass a Grade IV Water Certification Test. A great deal of reading and studying on employee’s own will be required. Failure to complete these requirements and pass the Grade IV Water Certification Test within 12 months of hire shall result in dismissal
- Must have good math and writing skills. Must have excellent study skills. Must have good communication skills and be able to follow directions. Computer knowledge required. Some classes will be online. Reports are done online.

- Any Water Treatment Plant experience and/or Water Certifications
- Any retired Grade IV Operators or other water systems Grade IV Operators interested in working at least part-time will also be given high priority.
