We require a City of Cape Canaveral Employment Application to be completed: www.capecanaveral.gov SUMMARY•Under close supervision trains to operate wastewater (WW) treatment, sludge press operation and reclaimed water field site inspection of the City’s reclaimed water system as required be Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Due to the nature of the work, appropriate safety footwear must be worn at all times in designated areas. The City provides reimbursement for approved safety shoes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates, monitors, installs, performs preventative maintenance/repair activities and keeps records related to machinery, equipment, and facilities at the City’s WWTP, lift stations, sanitary sewer piping system and reclaimed water distribution system including, but not limited to: electrical and hydraulic systems, pumps, controls, sludge-belt-press; chlorination equipment, reclaimed water distribution and sewer collection pipelines; manholes and street excavations. Performs reclaimed water field site inspection for the City’s reclaimed water distribution system (i.e., boxes, connections, etc.) in accordance with FDEP requirements. Informs new and existing City customers of rules and requirement of reclaimed water use. Operates equipment utilized in the Department including, but not limited to: backhoes, bobcats, boom truck, front end loader, sewer pressure cleaner, pipeline television equipment and sludge-press. Provides technical assistance in troubleshooting operational problems associated with the utility system. Maintains/cleans work area, tools, machinery, equipment, vehicles and facilities. Under the guidance of the WW Plant/Lab Manager, participates in WW Plant Operator continuing education requirements to include completing coursework and attending certification workshops. Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine process control needs. Starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control flow of sewage through filtering, settling, aeration and sludge digestion processes. Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings. Collects sewage samples and conducts routine laboratory tests. Performs general maintenance work on plant and collection system components. Maintains a strong commitment to City of Cape Canaveral Organizational Values Performs other related duties as required.

EXPERIENCE
Operator C:
Graduation from high school plus a minimum of one (1) year of experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operation. Experience in mechanical repair work preferred.
Operator B:
Graduation from high school plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operation. Experience in mechanical repair work preferred.
Operator A:
Graduation from high school plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operation and mechanical repair work .
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Operator C:
Possess and maintain a Class “C” Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
Operator B:
Possess and maintain a Class “B” Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
Operator A:
Possess and maintain a Class “A” Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Out of State candidates applying for reciprocity of the required license may be considered for this position. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
