Water/ Wastewater Utilities Spring Lake Improvement District 115 Spring Lake Boulevard, Sebring, FL 33876 Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Utility Superintendent, the Water/Wastewater Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of municipal water and wastewater lines and associated equipment. This role involves constructing and repairing water and wastewater mains, connecting fittings, excavating for line installations, testing water pressure, and restoring job sites. The position requires working in adverse conditions, including occasional adverse weather. Responsibilities Ensure safe operating conditions at work sites, including, managing traffic hazards, operating heavy equipment Install and service water and wastewater mains, place barricades, and excavating trenches Respond to on-call duties, addressing customer complaints and coordinating emergency repairs Raise, lower, and repair valve boxes, install water meters, connect and pressure test fire hydrants, and install pipes Locate and repair breaks in utility lines Repair and replace sewer lines and manholes Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, vac trucks, and dump trucks Maintain and install new fire hydrants Assist the supervisor with various tasks as directed Perform related work and emergency response duties as necessary Minimum Training and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent Experience in water/wastewater and or plumbing experience in line repairs Must obtain a Drinking Water or Wastewater license within 2 years of employment Minimum Qualifications Ability to frequently walk, stand, bend, stoop, lift, carry, and push/pull objects of moderate to heavy weight (20-50 pound), and occasionally very heavy items (100+ pounds) Effective communication skills in standard English, with poise, confidence, and voice control Proficiency in basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the use of algebraic formulas Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, and visually read various information Coordination of hands and eyes for handling, sorting, and managing paperwork and documentation Proficiency with modern office equipment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of practices and materials used in the installation and maintenance of water/wastewater utility systems Awareness of work hazards and safety precautions Skilled in operating heavy equipment and hand machinery for water and sewer line maintenance and repair Proficient in using hand tools, gas saws, drills, and various power tools Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues Ability to locate leaks, stoppages, and malfunctions in water and wastewater lines and related equipment If you are passionate about contributing to essential utility services and possess the skills outlined above, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding position as a Utility Worker.
