ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Performs assigned operating and maintenance requirements on mechanical
and electrical equipment at the wastewater treatment plant and potable
water wells. - Regulates rates of flow for water, generally regulates machines, adding
chemicals to Water under treatment prescribed by regulation. - Reads and changes a variety of charts, meters, and keeps log sheets to
prepare operating reports. - Maintains proper water pressure and water storage levels at potable water
wells. - Keeps under close observation, the physical condition of sewage under
treatment of proper temperature, color, and odor; operates pumps, agitators,
valves, and other equipment in order to properly treat raw sewage. - Performs other duties as assigned and required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and equipment of modern water wells and
sewage treatment systems. - Understands the implications of improper water or sewage treatment for
community health and well being. - Ability to inspect machinery and other mechanical equipment in operation to
detect flows and defects. - Ability to read meters and chart accurately, as well as maintaining records of
shift operations when directed to do so. - Basic understanding of the science s involved in wastewater treatment and
potable water treatment. - Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to draft reports on various phases of operation.
HOURS OF WORK, SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES, AND ACCOUNTABILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Position is subject to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends and
subject to call out when problems occur. - Generally works under the supervision of a Plant Operator II, or their superior.
On occasion, supervises a Plant Operator.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is considered the basic classification for certified operators of
wastewater treatment facilities and potable water wells. The work involves the
proper operation and regulation of plant equipment to insure that the end products
meet city, state and federally requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with
hands and arms, walk, talk, smell, hear and drive. The employee is occasionally
required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch and crawl. Specific vision
abilities include close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception.
The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 45 pounds and occasionally lifts
and/or moves up to 90 pounds. Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Two (2) years experience as a certified operator of a wastewater
treatment plant and at least one (I) year experience with potable
water wells.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, ETC.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain appropriate State of Florida motor vehicle
license, Class “B” CDL, with Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of
employment. - The following
State of Florida Certificates:
State of Florida DEP Class “C”
Wastewater Certification.
- Within two (2) years of employment must obtain a State of Florida DEP Class
“C” Drinking Water Certification for promotion to Operator II.
