Waste Water/Regulatory Supervisor Position Summary:
The Waste Water Lead is a hands-on working lead responsible for overseeing daily activities within the wastewater treatment area at our poultry processing facility. This role performs all essential duties of a Waste Water Worker while serving as a point of contact for shift coordination, work prioritization, and process troubleshooting. The Waste Water Lead supports the Waste Water/Regulatory Supervisor by guiding team members, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining operational efficiency in the treatment system.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor and operate wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, screens, clarifiers, and chemical dosing systems to treat plant effluent. Collect and test wastewater samples (e.g., pH, solids content) to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Adjust chemical levels or treatment processes to maintain effective system performance. Remove debris, grease, and poultry byproducts using filters, skimmers, or manual cleaning methods. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as clearing clogs, inspecting pipes, lubricating pumps, and assisting with repairs of broken equipment. Record treatment data for compliance logs and internal reporting. Properly dispose of sludge and solid waste in designated containers or areas. Maintain a clean and safe treatment area by following environmental, hygiene, and safety guidelines. Report equipment issues, water quality concerns, or any spills promptly to the Waste Water/Regulatory Supervisor. Assist with spill cleanup and emergency wastewater responses as needed. Provide daily direction to Waste Water Workers on the shift, helping prioritize tasks and ensuring completion. Act as liaison between the wastewater team and supervisor, communicating performance concerns, operational needs, or procedural updates. Guide and support new or less experienced team members in proper techniques and safety procedures. Ensure that shift operations continue smoothly in the supervisor’s absence and escalate issues when appropriate.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in wastewater operations, preferably in an industrial or food processing environment. Ability to lead and support a small team while maintaining a hands-on approach. Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes and regulatory requirements. Effective communicator with the ability to give clear direction and collaborate across departments. Comfortable working in wet, noisy environments with exposure to chemicals and poultry waste odors. Ability to lift and move up to 70 lbs., stand or walk for long periods, and perform physical tasks. Proficient in using testing tools (e.g., pH meters) and performing basic equipment repairs.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a wastewater treatment area with exposure to cold, wet conditions, chemicals, and strong odors. Protective gear (e.g., gloves, boots, waterproof clothing, safety goggles) provided and required. Shift work, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, may be required.
