Job Description A SeniorWastewater Operations Traveling Technician(SWOT) will be trained tooperate and maintain wastewater plants at several locations aroundthe country. The purpose of the position is to assist with newaccount startups, temporary operations, and to cover our existingfacilities while local operators are out on PTO/sick time. The SWOTwill be responsible for the overall operation and maintenance ofthe wastewater plants they visit, including process changes to meetcompliance, troubleshooting processes & equipment, operationalmanagement, maintenance (routine, reactive, and preventive),process & compliance sampling, laboratory testing, and writing anddistributing a daily shift report. In addition, the SeniorWastewater Operations Traveling Technicians will assist with thestartup of new wastewater operating contracts until full-time localoperators are hired The SWOT will be responsible for training thenewly hired operator(s). The SWOT will communicate with the clientand with Veolia’s Account Manager regarding the operation duringtheir time at the facility. The SWOT will be required to travel andbe away from home for extended periods of time – this can rangefrom 1-2 weeks at a time, all the way up to 1 or more months forcertain projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operateand maintain wastewater plants to comply with the requirements ofthe discharge permit, and each clients’ expectations/requirements.
Provide direction and support (as needed) to the operators on theother shifts, including the delegation of tasks based on the skillsand abilities of the other operators. Conduct lab analysis of thewaste streams at various points in the process to verify treatmentand to make process changes. Communicate frequently with theAccount Manager regarding the operation of the WWTP and requestassistance as needed for the site. Coordinate your own travel plansto and from the assigned facility.
Note:
Veolia pays for allexpenses associated with work-related travel (meals, lodging,transportation, etc.) Write or revise Standard OperatingProcedures, as necessary. Analyze lab data to uncover potentialtreatment issues and then implement process changes to preventnon-compliance. Submit daily and/or weekly reports to client andVeolia management regarding the current status of the wastewaterplant operations and needs of the operations team. Flexibility inschedule is very important. Most travel will be planned in advance,but there are occasions when emergencies arise. SWOT members willneed to be willing to travel on short notice. Although these timesare infrequent, it is a possibility. Manage the chemicalinventories, spare parts inventory, and waste disposal activities.
Provide training and/or facilitate training of operators for allfacets of the operation / management of the WWTP. Perform allduties/tasks in compliance with the site safety plan to ensure thesafety of all on-site personnel. Coordinate and assist with majormaintenance and preventive maintenance activities. Complete minorreactive and preventative maintenance activities to ensure smoothprocess operations at all times. Optimize the operation of thewastewater treatment plant.
Qualifications Education and ExperienceRequirements:
A wastewater license (biological and/or physicalchemical) required Willing to pursue reciprocity in other states aswell as higher levels in wastewater treatment. 6 years experiencein wastewater treatment with knowledge of biological and/orphysical/chemical treatment systems. (college included) Operationalexperience with several types of WWTP systems preferred.
Examples:
clarification, coagulation, flocculation, sludge dewatering, metalsprecipitation, aerobic, anaerobic, chemical feed, and labprocedures. Strong mechanical ability and aptitude required. Goodcommunication skills, both verbally and in written form. Abilityand desire to build a “team mentality”. Effective report writingskills.
