Position Description:

This position is responsible for all aspects associated with the water and wastewater treatment operations. This position must maintain a Class 5C Wastewater Treatment Plant License in the state of Massachusetts.

Key Accountabilities include:

Responsible for maintaining all the equipment associated with the water and wastewater treatment systems. Follows the treatment strategy as determined by the Lead Water/Wastewater Operator. Provides support to the major and minor projects at the wastewater treatment plant and the filter house at both of Onyx’s facilities, such as clarifier cleanings, pond cleanings, major shutdown projects, equipment repairs, etc. This may require working extended hours in a day or working during off hours. Manages the chemical inventory, including ordering and receiving various chemicals as needed, for the water and wastewater treatment processes at both Onyx’s facilities. Maintains active membership of the Confined Space Rescue Team and completes all applicable training requirements.

Position Requirements:

Understanding of the most current conditions and limitations for the Wastewater NPDES Permit, Groundwater Discharge Permit and Water Withdrawal Permit, as well as the applicable general environmental regulations regarding these areas. Must be able to troubleshoot process and equipment problems, including evaluating and considering alternative solutions. Must be able to respond to operational emergencies impacting the WWTP during off hours, either by phone or by coming into the mill. Ability to complete general maintenance including repairs, preventative maintenance tasks and lubrication of plant equipment and facility upkeep. Ability to lift, carry, and push tools and operations equipment. In addition, tasks may require standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching or climbing. Lifting, shoveling and moving large hoses are also functions of the job. Use of full face/cartridge respirator upon physician approval. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the Lead WWTP Operator, as well as Manufacturing Operations and Maintenance teams. Effective written and verbal communication Basic computer knowledge including data entry, proficient email communication, and operation of Microsoft Office suite. On-Call/Call-in Pay Schedule:

Average of 40 hours per week with normal work hours 6 am – 2:30 pm, including weekends Flexibility to arrange schedule with the Lead WWTP Operator to provide coverage for the WWTP operations 7 days per week.

Education:

High school or equivalent (Preferred) Must maintain a Class 5C Wastewater Treatment Plant License Maintain a Valid Driver’s License (and must be insurable under the company vehicle insurance policy for use of company truck) Hoisting License (1D) for Fork Truck use.
