This is a key position within our manufacturing facility which produces quality food products for our customers.
The Licensed Waste Water Treatment Technician II will partner with plant engineers and Operator/Mechanics to provide support for all aspects of waste water treatment infrastructure and its integration with manufacturing systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee site waste water treatment operations to operate within the requirements of and maintain compliance with South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) issued permit.
Manage the waste water treatment operations training process including curriculum, training content, validating proficiency, and improving training effectiveness.
Serve as the site’s waste water treatment subject matter expert to understand and evaluate continuity risks to site businesses and effectively communicate with site and area leadership teams that are impacted.
Manage assigned environmental programs such as stormwater pollution prevention (SWPP), spill prevention control and countermeasures (SPCC), hazardous waste, etc.
Serve as a member of the plant’s Stewardship/Responsible Care Core Team to drive continuous improvement in environmental compliance programs to meet or exceed company requirements and local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
Serve as environmental laboratory director for state certification.
Serve as the point of contact for federal, state, and local environmental agencies pertaining to waste water treatment and other assigned environmental areas of responsibility.
Partner with plant engineers and Operator/Mechanics to provide support for all aspects of waste water treatment infrastructure and its integration with manufacturing systems.
Interface with site contract support on issues related to waste water treatment operations.
Work with the Planning Core Team to troubleshoot instrumentation and controls issues with the operations and engineering team as required.
Provide subject matter expertise and guidance for reliability program for waste water treatment operations including specific work and preventative maintenance procedures; work with the Planning Core Team to prepare lockout plans for operations and maintenance when required; support area commissioning and safety reviews.
Lead or facilitate root cause failure analysis efforts related to waste water treatment utilizing root cause analysis methodology.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications and Experience:
Current Class/Grade B-Biological waste water operator’s license, or above issued by the State of South Carolina Environmental Certification Board.
5+ years of biological waste water treatment plant operations experience.
Experience abiding to permits, codes, and safety and environmental standards.
High school diploma or GED.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Demonstrated ability to perform work safely and effectively in an industrial environment.
Working knowledge of reading and interpreting plant drawings.
Skilled in creating, reviewing, and updating technical procedures.
Ability to use drawings, diagnostic data, and field observations to troubleshoot operations, maintenance, and reliability issues.
Ability to work with others and communicate well in a cross-functional setting including regulatory agencies, consultants, management, engineers, operator/mechanics, and contractors in a positive way.
Experience using a computer, including Microsoft Office applications.

Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise, and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity.
Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment, mechanical hazards, forklifts, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards, communicable diseases.
Position requires the ability to stand; walking around office, warehouse, and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting on a daily basis. Also requires the ability to see; hear; and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.
Bump caps, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, ear plugs, lockout devices, fall protection and any other personal protective equipment, as defined by C.H. Guenther and Son will be provided.
Work involves frequent exposure to time pressures, frequent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, tedious, and exacting work, irregular work schedule and/ or overtime, noisy and/or distracting environment, working closely with others as part of a team, and on rare occasion’s emergency situations.
