Job Description

Senior Fabrication Specialist Company:

The Boeing Company Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Fabrication Specialist to join our Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage team in Kennedy Space Center, FL. This position will support the Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage Team at NASA’s Space System Processing Facility located in Kennedy Space Center, FL. The ideal candidate has experience in one or more of the following: mechanical (tube installations), structural drilling and assembly, electrical (wire harness installation), orbital tube welding and/or thermal protective systems application.

Position Responsibilities:

Performs machine set-up, machining, welding set-up, welding, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks Performs composite lay-up, fabrication and assembly tasks Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains Performs soldering on electronic and avionics products Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests Performs organic chemical conversion and paint preparation Applies organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements Works on complex components and systems using established drawings and requirements Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): High School Diploma/ General Educational Development (GED) 5+ years’ experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing Experience with safety process and/or procedures in a manufacturing or operations environment Willing to work 2nd shift, including weekends and overtime Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Experience working on a NASA Program Manufacturing experience in human spaceflight, spaceflight, or aircraft hardware Experience in installation and handling of tubes, valves, fittings. Experience on human-rated spacecraft hardware. Experience in a clean room environment. Experience in Structural assembly with an emphasis on match drilling aluminum, titanium, and composite materials Experience with tubing and ducting installation Experience manually tacking weld joints, with the GTAW weld process. Training/education from an accredited welding institute/training center. Experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) Experience with orbital tube welding

Travel:

Position may require travel up to 10% of the time.
