We’re relentless in our coverage of politics, public policy, and community issues. We’re now looking for a dynamic and creative Advertising & Communications Manager to take our brand—and our revenue—to the next level. This is a key hire. You’ll lead advertising efforts, manage client accounts, shape public engagement, and maintain our online presence. Your role directly supports our mission and sustainability as a media outlet. If you’re equal parts persuasive, organized, and passionate about media, we want to talk. Core Responsibilities Advertising & Sales Develop and execute advertising strategies across digital, social, and print platforms. Solicit new advertisers, sponsors, and media partners—especially local businesses, campaigns, and nonprofits. Build custom advertising packages and pitch them with confidence. Collaborate with clients on deliverables and creative content. Track performance, report outcomes, and manage advertising budgets. Communications & Branding Create compelling, on-brand content for ads and promotions. Utilize applications to design graphics, mockups, and visuals. Draft press releases, marketing copy, and newsletters. Maintain and grow our social media pages , ensuring consistent voice and community engagement. Contribute ideas and campaigns that increase reach and brand recognition. Digital & Analytics Use tools like Google Analytics , Meta Business Suite , and email platforms to track and optimize campaign performance. Conduct market research and competitor analysis to inform strategy. Stay current on digital marketing trends, platform updates, and creative best practices. Journalism & Admin Support (Optional but valued) Assist in coordinating sponsored content or community reporting. Help with light editing, formatting, and proofreading articles. Potential opportunity to write or co-author news stories. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Journalism , or related field (preferred but not required) . , marketing, or media sales . Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with or passion for independent journalism and media is a big plus. Highly organized and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, startup-style environment.
