What began as a small initiative in 1985 has since bloomed into a hub of cultural activity at the Boca Grande Community Center. Our programs now boast world-renowned musicians, bestselling authors, and award-winning speakers. Position Overview The Program and Engagement Director reports directly to the CEO in support of the overall mission of the Friends of Boca Grande (FOBG). This position is responsible for leading the curation of all programming for the organization while marketing and communicating the same to our constituents thereby developing an audience pipeline. Additionally, the incumbent will ensure the smooth and successful implementation and execution of our (mostly) seasonal programs (November through April) by closely partnering and collaborating with the Production and Technology department. The incumbent will bring creative thinking and innovative ideas on how we might best bring our programs to life. Programs may include concerts, readings, lectures, performance art, workshops, school visits, or other formats – in the recently renovated Boca Grande Community Center. Finally, the Program and Engagement Director will manage a staff. Responsibilities

  • Working hand in hand with the Programming Committees of the Board of Directors and the CEO, this position develops the roadmap of all programming for each season. This includes curating and managing the invitations to artists and lecturers for lectures, concerts, film festival, workshops, and travel.
  • Coordinate and manage the scheduling, bookings, contracts, travel and accommodations for each artist and lecturer.
  • Serve as the central and key contact for all artists, lecturers and their agents as needed.
  • Recruits, trains, develops and supervises support staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate across the organization to ensure the production and technology, and facilities and operations departments have all the information they need to connect with the artists and lecturers and produce best in class programs and experiences for our guests.
  • Accountable to lead the preparation and communication for any public-facing materials, including marketing, social media, website, press releases, annual reports, newsletters, and other communications surrounding programs to develop an audience pipeline for programs.
  • Along with the CEO, focus efforts on engaging our guests through understanding and tracking the changing demographics while developing programming that appeals to all.
  • Along with the CEO, serve as a key spokesperson for the organization at programs and events.
  • Participate as needed in special projects in the direction of the CEO.
  • Develops evaluation methods to determine future programming needs.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Qualifications Qualifications
  • A passion for the FOBG mission and the organization’s commitment to supporting the community.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent, or higher.
  • 3-5 years combined experience in programming, project management and marketing/communications. An arts, humanities or cultural organization is preferred.
  • Experience managing and supervising teams preferred.
  • Previous experience in journalism, public relations, event planning, writing or editorial work highly desirable.
  • Organizational and project-planning skills are paramount as is the management and coordination of multiple institutional partnerships.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills; strong editing and proofreading skills are essential.
  • Experience and knowledge surrounding the successful implementation of both live and virtual programs.
  • The ability to plan for both short-term programs and long-term initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and experience with marketing, promotion, social media, branding, and all associated materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as a team player, at ease with a wide range of constituents and backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with diplomacy and discretion.
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends in support of programs and events.
  • Proficiency with management software, including database, communication, and event management programs.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office, Google G-Suite applications, Zoom and other relevant applications.
