As the leadership phase of the campaign begins, the Division of University Advancement is accelerating the hiring of additional Alumni Engagement professionals campus-wide and is excited to build out its team. Responsibilities The Assistant Director of University Advancement Communications, Philanthropic Communications assists the Senior Director in the management and direction of philanthropic communications. Assists in the creation, implementation and management of strategic, multi-faceted communications projects designed to further the Division of University Advancement’s mission, goals and objectives, especially as related to philanthropy. Communication Development Identify and manage communications projects on behalf of the Division of University Advancement, including organizing research, obtaining necessary approvals and measuring results. Work with project manager and other communications staff on project status, needs and expected deadlines. Work with division staff on developing communication tools for a wide variety of philanthropic initiatives. Assist with developing and disseminating messages and materials for comprehensive campaigns. Work primarily on projects related to annual giving, donor relations, internal communications and development officers. Writing and Editing Develop, write, edit and proofread communications materials, including proposals, scripts, brochures, one-pagers, articles, stories, press releases, emails, portal announcements and a variety of campaign collateral materials in accordance with accepted stylistic standards. Ensure key messages are articulated in communications materials. Identify story ideas, conduct interviews and research, and develop stories for the Division of University Advancement and campaign websites. Focus on communications projects related to annual giving, donor relations, internal communications and development officers. Strategy and Planning Provide appropriate communication strategy for departments/projects, working with the Senior Director of University Advancement Communications. Protect confidential information. Keep abreast of university priorities and messages to ensure Division of University Advancement communications are aligned with university priorities and messages. Keep abreast of fundraising, engagement and communications best practices to inform Division of University Advancement projects. Recommend and implement policies and procedures related to philanthropic communications. Management Manages a communications coordinator and communications intern, including recruiting and onboarding, assigning and overseeing tasks and providing thoughtful evaluation and coaching. Supports the Senior Director of University Advancement Communications in managing the operational unit and acts on their behalf when delegated. Serves as backup for Assistant Director of University Advancement Communications, Engagement Communications as needed. Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience related to media, communications, and/or marketing services; or a high school diploma or equivalency and eight years of experience in the same areas.
