00 Annually Location City of Coral Gables, FL Job Type Full-time Job Number 1325 Department City Manager’s Office Division Communications Division Opening Date 05/22/2025 Closing Date 6/2/2025 11:59 PM Eastern + Description + Benefits + Questions Summary Under the guidance and direction of the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, this position serves as a key member of the Communications and Public Affairs Division with responsibility over digital communications, marketing, graphic design, media and public relations, as well as assisting the Director in the long-range planning, operation, and management of the Office of Communications. The Coordinator implements strategic thinking and marketing plans and ensures that the presentation of public information, press releases, news, feature stories, photographs, video and media productions presents the City in a positive light Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Serves in the capacity of the Director of Communications & Public Affairs in their absence. Supervises, assigns and reviews the work of city and contracted staff to provide effective services to City departments and to ensure effective dissemination of public information. Develops marketing plans promoting city programs and/or services. Develops and distributes information to residents, visitors, businesses, City officials, and employees of the City via social media, email newsletter, city website, digital and print advertising, press releases, and direct mail, among other methods. Devises and manages communications campaigns aimed at internal and external audiences regarding City goals and initiatives while ensuring high quality customer service, professional standards, and quality controls. Reviews marketing and communications materials from outside departments and divisions, including but not limited to the Economic Development Department, the Community Recreation Department, and its Country Club Division. Serves as liaison to the City’s Communications Committee in conjunction with the Director. Serves as the City’s secondary spokesperson and media liaison for English and Spanish language media. ? Develops and manages annual operating budget in conjunction with the Director. ? Meets and confers with department directors and emergency personnel to determine the most effective crisis communications strategy for major events requiring immediate response such as weather-related events and other incidents. ? Pursues ongoing professional development through course attendance, professional organizations, and meetings/conventions to stay informed of advancements and trends in the industry. ? Performs all work in compliance with intellectual property laws. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Broadcast Media, or related field.?Master’s degree preferred. ? Three (3) years related experience in marketing, communications, media and public relations, journalism, and/or public affairs. Managerial and supervisory experience preferred. ? Bilingual (English/Spanish). Must be fluent in both languages and communicate verbally and in writing. Valid Florida Driver’s License.

HOLIDAYS

15 days including 3 floating days.

SICK LEAVE

110 hours annually.

ANNUAL LEAVE

94 hours in the first year of employment, increasing up to 210 after 25 years. Employees must take 40 hours of annual leave each year.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

5 or 10 days for the death of a family member in accordance with the City’s Personnel Rules & Regulations.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Fully paid by the City (HMO Select). Coverage becomes effective 1st of month following 30 days. Employee may purchase coverage for eligible dependents at a cost of approximately 50% of the premium.

DENTAL INSURANCE

Available at a cost to all employees through payroll deduction.

LIFE INSURANCE

Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment equal to 1 x annual salary (up to $200,000) fully paid by the City.

VOLUNTARY BENEFITS

Several plans are available, such as Short Term Disability, Life Insurance and Critical Illness policies through payroll deductions.

LEGAL SERVICES

Legal Service plan available at a cost to all employees through payroll deductions.

POST EMPLOYMENT HEALTH PLAN

(PEHP): The City deposits $950 annually into an individual account for each employee. Monies may be used to pay premiums or medical expenses after retirement.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

Employees may defer a portion of their pre-tax salary in the 457 Deferred Compensation Program.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT

$2,000 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) as per the City’s Rules and Regulations.

CELL PHONE

Cell phone provided at a monthly cost of $20.00, if required by department.

Employee, spouse and immediate family members seventeen (17) years of age and under are entitled to the benefits below:

  • Contribution by City of 7% of employee base annual salary. Vesting period 5 years. Employee not required to contribute.
