Under the oversight of the Senior Associate Athletics Director of Brand Communications, this position assists in the management of the overall Strategic Communications Office within University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, and is responsible for the administration and organization of the communications function for assigned sports. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serves as primary strategic communications contact for men’s basketball and other assigned sports, responsible for the research, writing and distribution of creative / original releases, features and related communication content over multiple mediums (website, social, print, etc.)
Researches best practices and develops / implements progressive communication strategies towards greater engagement between the team / student-athletes and fan base.
Collaborates with external team (Brand Advancement, Charge On Fund, UCF Sports Properties, Tickets, and Production) in generating greater awareness of the university brand and sport to enhance interest and maximize overall revenue opportunities.
Serves as liaison with university, media, coaches and student-athletes in the development and enrichment of brand initiatives.
Represents sport and university with the opponent’s sports information office, providing information relative to the team, studentathletes and coaches where appropriate. May require travel with team when appropriate.
Develops and maintains close contact with local, conference, and national media covering assigned sports.
Plans, organizes, and coordinates press conferences / interviews, and responds to questions / media requests where appropriate.
Responds to requests from media personnel and the public relative to assigned sports.
Manages gameday responsibilities relative to area of operation, to include oversight of statistics crew, public announcer and related. Also engaged in addressing problems of media and press box employees.
Represents university and assigned sports with the NCAA, conference, and sports publications relative to student-athlete and program recognition opportunities (award nominations). May serve on external committees towards the enhancement of the sport where appropriate.
Provides supervision, scheduling, training and logistical support to student staff and contracted vendors where appropriate. This includes, but is not limited to, providing substantial input into the hiring, termination, or other changes of employment status of student support staff, as well as the identification and selection and payment of appropriate vendors related to area of assignment.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and two years appropriate experience. Appropriate graduate coursework or master’s degree may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Communications experience at the collegiate or professional levels
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, and StatCrew/Genius software
Strong communication, organization, writing, editing and social media skills Due to the nature/scope of Athletics and Athletics events, position may require work during evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as the ability to stand / walk for extended periods of time and occasional travel.
