The Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation is a non-profit organization that champions a collaborative campaign to permanently connect, protect, and restore the Florida Wildlife Corridor. The organization uses rich storytelling, rooted in science, to heighten the visibility of the Florida Wildlife Corridor and inspire protection of the missing links in the Corridor. The Florida Wildlife Corridor comprises nearly 18 million acres of contiguous wild and working lands crucial to the survival of many of Florida’s 131 imperiled animals. Role:
The Corridor Foundation is looking for a seasoned leader to develop and guide our public affairs efforts by creating and managing initiatives at local, state, and national levels that cultivate and engage decision-makers and key stakeholders. Collaborating with teams across the organization and with external partners, this role will develop strategies and lead engagement with government and business leaders, market influencers, and strategic partners to drive protection of the Florida Wildlife Corridor.
Position Type/Work Environment:
This is a salaried, full-time exempt position. There will be extensive travel (10-15 days per month) within Florida.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5years related work experience.
Candidate Requirements:
A passion for the Corridor Foundation’s mission Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, environmental science, land use planning, public policy, communications or a related field 5 or more years of experience preferred working in the conservation, natural resources, government relations or external affairs Well-connected in state or local government and conservation sector in Florida Ability to cultivate and manage relationships with senior level leaders among our local/state partner agencies and organizations Sound judgment with the ability to assess risks to the Corridor Foundation’s reputation and mission success Ability to build lasting relationships with external partners and to work collaboratively across diverse groups in a way that positively supports the mission Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a distinct ability to distil complex ideas into simple, understandable messaging Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport, and collaborate effectively across departments and all levels of team members Comfortable with travel
Responsibilities:
Develop an advocacy strategy for the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation for federal and state audiences in collaboration with the CEO. Launch and manage a targeted county-level strategy that motivates key counties within the Corridor to increase conservation efforts at the local level in cooperation with the Chief Conservation Officer. Oversee, coordinate, and track public affairs involvement at each level in cooperation with lead partners. Coordinate with relevant Corridor lobby teams and lead partners. Work closely with the Chief Experience Officer on messaging and collateral materials. Raise the profile and visibility of the Corridor and the Corridor Foundation as a leader in conservation policy efforts with federal agencies and key Congressional staff. Build creative and enduring alliances and partnerships to support the Corridor Foundation’s policy efforts locally, state-wide, and nationally. Don’t meet every single requirement?
