Overview :
The Communications Manager at a country club is responsible for managing both internal and external communications to ensure that the club’s message is clear, consistent, and aligned with its brand. This role involves developing and executing communication strategies, managing public relations efforts, and overseeing all forms of media communication, including newsletters, social media, website content, and member communications. The Communications Manager plays a key role in enhancing the club’s reputation, promoting its services and events, and maintaining strong relationships with members and the community.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications Planning:
Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the club’s goals, values, and target audiences. Collaborate with senior management to create messaging that promotes the club’s events, services, and brand identity. Establish communication objectives and performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication campaigns. Maintain a consistent tone and voice across all communication channels, ensuring alignment with the club’s overall brand.
Member Communication:
Oversee the creation and distribution of regular communications to members, including newsletters, emails, and updates on events, news, and club policies. Manage the club’s member portal or website content, ensuring that information is up-to-date, accurate, and relevant. Address member inquiries and feedback in a timely and professional manner, ensuring that the club’s communication fosters positive relationships with members. Organize and promote member-specific events, announcements, and special initiatives through targeted communications.
External Communications and Public Relations:
Manage media relations, including drafting press releases, pitching story ideas to local publications, and responding to media inquiries. Serve as the primary point of contact for external media outlets, promoting the club’s events, accomplishments, and community involvement. Build and maintain strong relationships with local media, journalists, and influencers to enhance the club’s visibility. Coordinate interviews, photo shoots, and media appearances for key club events and milestones.
Social Media and Digital Marketing:
Develop and manage the club’s social media strategy, ensuring content is engaging, consistent, and aligned with the club’s brand. Oversee social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, posting regularly about club events, member stories, promotions, and achievements. Track and analyze social media performance metrics, adjusting strategies as needed to increase engagement and reach. Collaborate with the marketing team to create digital advertising campaigns to promote membership, events, and club services.
Event Promotion and Coordination:
Work closely with the events team to promote club events such as tournaments, social gatherings, fundraisers, and special member experiences. Create promotional materials for events, including flyers, posters, emails, and online content, ensuring they are visually appealing and informative. Ensure that all communication surrounding events is clear, professional, and effective in attracting member participation.
Crisis Communication and Reputation Management:
Develop and implement strategies for communicating with members and the public during crisis situations, ensuring that messages are clear, accurate, and help protect the club’s reputation. Proactively monitor club perceptions and address potential issues or public relations challenges in a timely and effective manner. Work with senior management to develop a crisis communication plan to ensure readiness for any unexpected events.
Internal Communication:
Oversee internal communications to staff, ensuring that all team members are informed about important updates, policies, and upcoming events. Foster a culture of open communication within the club by providing staff with the tools and platforms needed to share information effectively. Collaborate with other departments to ensure that all staff members are aligned with the club’s messaging and goals.
Content Creation and Copywriting:
Write and edit high-quality content for newsletters, press releases, marketing materials, and the club’s website and blog. Produce engaging visual and written content for social media and other digital platforms. Ensure that all content is aligned with the club’s tone, voice, and branding guidelines.
Requirements:
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably in the hospitality, country club, or leisure industries. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external audiences. Experience with social media management, content creation, and digital marketing strategies. Proficiency in using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) and tools such as Hootsuite or Buffer. Knowledge of graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) or a working relationship with a design team for creating visual content. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to build relationships with media contacts and handle media inquiries effectively. Crisis communication experience is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in event planning and promoting club events. Photography or videography skills for creating multimedia content. Familiarity with membership management systems and how they can be used to engage members through digital communication. Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact.
Work Environment:
Full-time position with the flexibility to work during evenings and weekends for events, meetings, or to address time-sensitive communications needs. Office-based, with occasional work outside of the office for events or media-related activities.
