Position Summary:
As Hope Atlanta celebrates 125 years of service and impact, we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Marketing and Communications to lead our brand into the future. This leader will guide an integrated communications strategy that supports our fundraising goals, elevates our brand, and strengthens alignment across programs and development. The ideal candidate is a collaborative storyteller and strategist—able to shape compelling content, manage our social media and website, secure earned media, and develop cohesive event collateral. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role is part of a hybrid work environment, with our office located just a few blocks from Ponce City Market in Atlanta, Georgia and will work alongside a passionate team. We’re looking for someone who brings not only creativity and strategy, but also a deep heart for our neighbors experiencing homelessness and a shared desire to make a meaningful impact. This person will frequently visit our programs to capture and share powerful moments with the public through social media, earned media, special reports, and more—amplifying the mission and stories of Hope Atlanta. Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Provides strategic counsel to the CEO and senior leadership team as a trusted communications professional with sound judgment and the ability to earn trust. Values Hope Atlanta’s mission and culture and takes a vested interest in positioning the organization well with both internal and external stakeholders. Ensures consistent messaging across all communication channels, including supporting fundraising campaigns. Develops and implements comprehensive communications strategies, campaigns, and materials to influence key target audiences (board of directors, advisory council, donors, policymakers, community partners, media, etc.). Collaborates with the fundraising team to create marketing materials that support donor engagement, fundraising campaigns, and special events. Leads email marketing efforts through platforms such as MailChimp, developing and managing campaigns, newsletters, and donor communications. Creates quarterly field reports and annual reports to convey the organization’s performance, impact, and engagement. Oversees the creation of press releases, media pitches, and other communications materials. Secures media coverage through proactive pitching and relationship building. Builds relationships with key local and national press contacts, handling inquiries. Monitors and analyzes media coverage, providing insights and recommendations to enhance strategies. Creates and manages a communications and content calander, with the ability to plan effectively to meet deadlines. Manages and grows Hope Atlanta’s digital and social media presence, including the Hope Atlanta website, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, etc., ensuring fresh content through calendars and creative assets. Leads website management, including regular updates, improvements, and engagement metrics. Helps collect and curate client testimonials to share through blogs, emails and video. Finds, tracks, and manages public-sector award applications and other platforms to enhance visibility and reputation. Tracks and reports on the success of public relations and marketing campaigns using metrics and analytics. Stays updated on local, state, and national trends and best practices around homelessness, housing affordability, equity, and other intersectional issues to ensure innovative and effective PR strategies. Oversees executive team events, speaking engagements, planning, and logistics. Manages a third-party vendor or staff person to assist with either communications or design work, and printers, photographers, ensuring strategic and cost-effective use of services.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus. Minimum of 7-10 years experience overseeing marketing efforts. In-depth knowledge of application processes, budgeting principles, and financial management. Proficiency in MailChimp/SalesForce, Canva, or other design software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
