Associate Director of Development Communications Overview The Director of Development Communications leads the Office of Development’s strategic communications and marketing efforts to deepen prospect/donor engagement and support fundraising at UL Lafayette. This role creates content for annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, donor relations, and event communications. The director supervises the Associate Director and works closely with Development leadership to ensure communications are compelling, on-brand, and impactful across digital, print, and social media channels.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Communications:
Create donor-centered content for Development and Foundation core functions. Ensuring timing of communications and messaging aligns messaging with Development goals and university branding.
Collaboration & Support:
Serve as a content resource for the development team, ensuring consistent, effective messaging. Maintain a content library and support philanthropy-related events.
Project Management:
Oversee timelines and workflows using project management tools. Coordinate communications across departments and align with business plan priorities.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor the Associate Director, set expectations, provide feedback, and manage collaborative workflows.
Organizational Alignment:
Provide regular reports to contribute to team-wide communications planning and performance tracking.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree; 2+ years professional writing experience; strong writing/editing skills; experience with project management and cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred:
Degree in Communications, English, or related field; experience in development or higher education; 3-5 years of management experience in a communications role. Skills Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities Strategic, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven Strong collaboration, client-service, and leadership skills Experience with fundraising communications and managing staff Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools Familiarity with CRM systems and
