Scripps Company is hiring for a Specialist, Community Relations at KATC. The Community Relations Specialist facilitates the station’s community outreach initiatives. This individual is the primary point person fielding requests from civic and charitable organizations and communicating those requests to station leadership to determine the station’s level of involvement. This position will work across all departments coordinating activities with charitable events involving the station.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Responsible for coordinating station participation in community events that further the brand of the station. Responsible for maintaining relationships with charitable organizations. Works with on-air talent to organize special appearances, on-air promotion and participation in station sponsored events. Works with Creative Services to plan and coordinate station events. Focuses efforts on creating partnerships that allow the station to further its brand strategy and positively impact the community. Other activities as assigned

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in a related field 1-2 years of communications and/or public relations experience Experience interfacing with non-profit organizations a plus Event planning experience a plus

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Solid writing and editing skills and an understanding of working with the news media Must be a good listener, well organized, detail-oriented, independent, self-motivated, and able to work well under tight deadlines. Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of in-house personnel, to clearly define objectives and of multiple initiatives, and to function as a team player. Ability to grasp, process and translate the landscape which drives our businesses from both the industry and consumer perspectives. A decisive leader with strong interpersonal skills who will develop and effectively communicate the brand’s vision. Well-organized, with the ability to handle a multitude of projects simultaneously

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Standard office environment May require travel to location Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
