POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Governmental Affairs reports to the President of the Board of Commissioners and to Executive Counsel and is responsible for liaising with local, state, and federal government officials in matters pertaining to the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East (SLFPA-E) and providing support and advice, as needed, regarding funding, regulation, and legislative matters on the local, state and federal level.
Salary Range:
$114,400 to $135,200
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the management of governmental and legislative affairs pertaining to the SLFPA-E and the levee districts within its jurisdiction, more specifically described as follows: 50% – Serves as the primary liaison between SLFPA-E and federal, state, and local governmental bodies and officials. 10% – Coordinates and participates in meetings, discussions, and functions necessary to achieve funding goals and legislative goals as adopted by the Authority. 10% – Reviews and tracks legislative instruments and provide timely advice and information to board and administrative leadership on items pertaining to or potentially impacting the
SLFPA-E. 10
% – Identifies potential funding sources for capital projects and operations expenses at the local, state and federal level. Coordinates research, analysis and monitors funding applications including but not limited to capital outlay requests. 20% – Assists commissioners and administrative leadership, where requested, in resolving issues and conflicts with governmental entities and officials.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of local, state, and federal legislative bodies, officials, and functions.
2. Skilled in interacting with various governmental and private sector agencies, officials and stakeholders and keeping the board and administrative leadership apprised of same. Employer
